Anyone else's DH get a little freaked out by the jargon and scientific side of TTC?

If my DH had it his way, I wouldn't be reading up on all of this TTC stuff and we would just BD on a whim.

Of course, I'm waaayy too anal to just wing it.

I mentioned something in passing about CM and he looked a little freaked out Chat Icon

He thinks if I get too hung up on all of these OPKs, DPOs, 2wws, etc. that the stress will make it harder for us to conceive.

Am I the only one?

DH does not and will not know ANYTHING about TTC. He doesn't know when i am fertile, and if he has figured it out - I make sure that he just doesn't care. Chat Icon

I don't even read TCOYF when he is home.

Re: Anyone else's DH get a little freaked out by the jargon and scientific side of TTC?

I did my research and told my DH only the basics (he was clueless as to HOW pregnancy occurs so I explained about ovulating/releasing the egg). I did not mention anything to him about my CM or when I was Oing. I did tell him a day or two later that I had gotten a positive OPK so I should have ovulated but I didnt want him to feel pressure etc so I kept it to myself and it was fine.

Exactly what I was going to say! He knows I'm doing OPKs and that my cycle is still irregular from the pill, but I already told him I won't even let him know when I'm ovulating...but he has to be ready at ALL TIMES. hahahahaha.

I also agree with him, I think focusing too much on the scientific portion of it takes the fun out of it and makes it harder.

*i am not referring to people who are having a hard time conceiving, I just mean people starting out, like me.

Also, it puts a lot of pressure on HIM and I don't think that is healthy either.

So glad I'm not the only one! I'll tell him when I'm the most fertile but he wants nothing to do with how I know.

I actually brought TCOYF on the train once and DH was next to me. He looked a little shaky that I was reading it in public, and then I got to the pics of man/lady parts and CM and *I* was horrified. I made that an "at home book" after that. Chat Icon

Agreed. We aren't starting until next month, and I think he wants it to just be "fun" for awhile..

...meanwhile I do all the baby math in my head "if we get get pg ___ I'll have the baby ___ which means we can go on X vacation but wouldn't be able to do ___" and start to get my nerves up. Chat Icon

ha ha dont worry i am the same way. and even though this was only my first ever 2WW it was TORTURE!!!

I am missing our "fertile time" when I will be in Italy without DH and I am bummed about it.

I think DH would pass out if he got to the CM pictures in that book! Chat Icon

My DH is the complete opposite. He researches stuff on his own, asks me if I checked my CM, wants to know what he can do to help increase our chances. The other night I was looking online to order pre-seed and OPKs and he asked if they have vitamins for him that would help. He makes me laugh.

DH feels the same way. We haven't started yet but will VERY soon ...... and he keeps saying how he wants it to be fun and he doesn't want me to turn it into a science project Chat Icon I completely get what he is saying, but I know it will be unavoidable!

Re: Anyone else's DH get a little freaked out by the jargon and scientific side of TTC?

i know you mean! i mentioned opks and he looked at me like i was crazy....he does not want to make this a science experiment (direct quote from my dh)...

he is funny though....we have been ttc to since may/june and nothing yet (expecting af this weekend)...he thinks bding a couple of days before af can get you pregnant...i told him babe no there is only a 12-24 hour window and its def. not 48 hours before af....he was like well how do you know then he retracted that statement and said forget it i don't want to know all the details...

i think if i busted out with an opk or told im ovulating he would feel soo much pressure...i know its still early on in the process....if by month 9 we haven't i might have to enlighten him a little bit more.

glad to hear my dh isn't the only one...i was feeling sooo frustrated!!!

funny to read this...we usually would have a trip planned already for the winter/spring and we don't....he wants to go away in july and im like babe i might be pregnant...and then he's like what if we aren't <sigh> what can you do right!?

DH doesn't want to know anything. He just does what I say. At the beginning of 2ww he was like "what happened to booty?" I was like we're done for now. He's like "now what?" I was like "now we wait". Chat Icon

You can't explain it to them. They have no clue.

Re: Anyone else's DH get a little freaked out by the jargon and scientific side of TTC?

DH was clueless he thought you BD and that was all there was to it. He had no idea it had to be at a certain time of the month. I explained Ovulation to him, but in a very simple way Chat Icon

The funny thing is he was talking to some of his friends who have kids for "tips" as he calls them. He said things are different now, we are not just doing it to have fun, we have a purpose. The advice was told hold me legs in the air for a half hour after BD. I think it is cute he is trying to contribute. However, if he saw those CM photos in TCOYF he would prob never BD with me again Chat Icon

Mine said the same thing to me... why get hung up on it, ect. I have to agree... the whole "baby-sex" concept is not romantic.

You could always try for a little while without anything...and then move on if need be.

Mine got slowly used to it & now he's a pro!

Re: Anyone else's DH get a little freaked out by the jargon and scientific side of TTC?

you're definitely not the only one. My Dh has said very similar stuff. We haven't really been TTC yet, but rather just trying to relax and have fun with it. However, now I'm feeling like I seriously want to figure everything out (which is why I'm trying to track down my O date more thoroughly this cycle). He was saying last night how all the scientific methods behind it kinda kill the romance. I said it was true, but hopefully we can get lucky enough to conceive pretty soon after trying. Then we can go back to BDing just for the hell of it Chat Icon

My DH saw me on this site and immediately connected it to LIWeddings (which is pretty good since I haven't been on it since 06). He was like well at least you know all the acronyms. I told him that there are a bunch more that I need to learn. He was like, OK, go talk your secret language with the other girls...just remember you need me for this too Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

He's pretty good about the 'science' of it though. He knows when I O and he knows that about 2 weeks afterwards we begin stocking up on EPTs. I'm going to teach him about OPTs this cycle. Chat Icon
