My son has a dairy allergy and is on amino acid formula. Is your child on amino acid formula(Nutramigen AA, Elecvare or Neocate?)

Re: anyone elses newborn diagnosed with milk allergy/ cant break down proteins/ colitis?
My DS has a milk protein sensitivity..developed around 2 months old. The 2 weeks that we were trying to figure it out where horrible. He has mucus/blood in his stool. The ped. he had at that time sent me to a GI, and I feel they both weren't sure what was going on, which is why I have since changed Dr.'s.
They put him on Soy, which I later learned was a big no-no...then Alimentum, which DS hated...it made him gassy, fussy & miserable. So I decided to go with my gut instinct, I went back to BFing, and I went dairy free, and we have been fine ever since...he was a different baby when I went back to BFing.
Now at 9 m/o, I can have butter and certain things that contain dairy..I just cannot have whole milk or ice cream or cheese..he spits up if I do. But his current ped. feels he will be fine to start whole milk at 1 y/o...so I am hopeful for that!!
FM if you have any ?'s.

Re: anyone elses newborn diagnosed with milk allergy/ cant break down proteins/ colitis?
My daughter was diagnosed with one at 7 weeks... Colic was her main symptom but it was confirmed by a test coming up positive for blood in the stool. The doc put her on alimentum for a month and while I saw a major improvement in the fussiness her stool was still testing positive for blood. The doc then put her on neocate and while we are working out constipation issues on the the neocate, we just finally got a negative test back for blood in the stool so it seems we've finally found something that works. I actually noticed that some reflux type symptoms that I did notice while she was on the alimentum, have improved since being on the neocate. Good Luck

Yes. It was a nightmare in the beginning. We went threw different formulas before we got to the right one. DS has been on Similac Alimentum since 1.5month. It was a LONG few weeks but he was been doing wonderful since.
DS also has acid reflux so we put rice cereal in his bottles (1tbsp/5oz). This combined seemed to help.
Good luck!

Regular nutramigen still has milk protein in it. I would go for the AA-your Dr may be able to get you a few cans from the Enfamil rep. Mine was super helpful while I worked out insurance. Neocate and Elecare are basically the same but my son hated them
