How long is the drive from NY?

Anyone know the weather there in late March?

Re: Anyone ever drive to Myrtle Beach?

Yes. We drove last October. We left NYC at 4 on a Friday and we hit really bad traffic in NJ. We ended up having to stop and stay outside of Richmond at 1 am due to very heavy rain. It probably would have taken 14 hours if we didn't stop.

We decided to drive half way and stay at a hotel again on the way back, so we never actually made the trip in one go.

DH was there the 2nd or 3rd week last March and the weather was good - much warmer than here.

I was thinking of driving there late march and staying for 4 days, but that's a long drive for only 4 days!

Re: Anyone ever drive to Myrtle Beach?

I've only gone in the summer months but it took about 12-13 hours nonstop on our 1st trip down. The second trip we took down there, we only drove back from Mrytle to NY (going we were heading from TX to SC) and it took like 15 hours (but that was because we had the baby w/us and the stops were more frequent and the duration of stopping was longer).

We went for 4 days also, for a christening, and it was not a good idea to drive that far for such a short stay. I would definitely fly the next time.

Re: Anyone ever drive to Myrtle Beach?

I did it with 3 of my college friends for Spring Break (March/April). I don't remember how many hours it took us, but we had fun because there was four of us. I also remember trying to layout in our bathing suits (we were in major denial), but it was still too cold. Warm enough to wear shorts/tshirts, etc though..

We do it all the time to visit my mom (and bring the dogs with us) ... I think it's taken anywhere from 11 to 16 hours depending on time of day/time of year/traffic/construction/etc.

Weather can be tricky ... could be 70's and sunny or chillier in the 50's.

Re: Anyone ever drive to Myrtle Beach?

we just drove to Atlanta, GA- and it took 15 hours and we stopped often-we had the dog with us...

I would think you should shave at least 3-5 hours off of that time...

we left at about 5am though- this helped-we hit NO traffic at all the entire drive down!

I think it took us around 12-13 hours. We almost drove straight through from 9pm until the next morning.

Re: Anyone ever drive to Myrtle Beach?

Did it a few years ago with DH -- it was fun but a long ride. We went thru NJ and took the Cape May car ferry across to Delaware which saved some time and broke up the trip.... We also stopped overnight in Virginia going there. I don't remember how long it took but def long. Another time I went we flew Spirit which was easier!
