Anyone ever leave a box of tissues in or near your toddler's crib?
Kieran has a bad cold right now and lately, he always tells us when he needs a tissue. He's ALWAYS been a great sleeper. He never ever gets up during the night (a handful of times when he was teething). He usually sleeps till at least 9 on the days he doesn't go to daycare. Yesterday, he woke up at 7, crying that he needed a tissue. So I went into him, wiped his nose, and then asked if he wanted to go back to bed. He said no, so we got up for the day. This morning, he woke up at 6, again, crying for a tissue. I went into him, wiped his nose, and had to do some convincing, but eventually convinced him to go back to bed. I was thinking if we put a small box of tissues in the corner of his crib, maybe we could avoid this happening in the future. He likes to take tissues and wipe his own nose. My concern is that he may be hanging out in his crib and decide to pull all the tissues out and play with them . Just wondering if anyone has tried this!

I wouldn't...I had a 3 year old child once, who shoved like 5 tissues up his nose, and his mom had no idea...it was awful. It sounds unbelievable, but they were up his nose for weeks...and started to smell. He had to have them removed by a dr. Again, I know it sounds crazy...but I always think of that child when my son has a tissue...and take it away from him when he is done blowing. I am sure it is short lived, and once his nose is better, he will sleep again

Hrm
I never even thought to do that! she has a thing about dirty tissues. She will rub her nose very well with one, then hand it to me. Or if she rubs her nose with her hands, she'll wipe her hands clean, hand THAT one to me and ask for another 'clean' one.
Needless to say we go through a lot in our house but hey its worth the habit.
But she knows they are dirty and wants to see them go 'away' so I have to have them. I can't leave a dirty tissue in her room or she'll go nuts. I am guilty of keeping an empty tissue box near my bed when I'm sick and putting the used ones in there, so she saw me. Now she believes all dirty tissues go into trash or boxes immediately after use.
I can't leave a box in her room but I kinda wish I could!
ETA: actually she’ll make me stuff her nose with rolled up tissue if she’s really suffering but won’t sleep with them in. She’ll pull them out and has to have a clean tissue to place them on. If she’s not already passing out she’ll fold them up in the clean tissue and put it on the floor for me. If she’s too tired they stay on the clean tissue. Its funny to watch (because obviously I don’t leave her alone with tissue shoved up her nose)

I would be afraid to leave tissues in his crib. Maybe try a soft washcloth to wipe his nose and then leave that in the crib.

I don't think I'd leave tissues, but maybe a soft burp cloth? Tell him it's a big boy handkerchief?

OMG my husband's nephew did this with the stuffing from a quilt he slept with when he was little!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's 32 now but the story is told often and I cringe every time!

ITA with a burp cloth or wash cloth. If I left a box of tissues, the whole box would be emptied on the floor in a matter of seconds.

I agree with this. My toddler would pull all the tissues out to play, but a wash cloth sounds like a good idea.
