Anyone ever take their LO's under 2 to Hoyt Farm Park?
We're looking to do a picnic outing with some friends with our DH's and DC. There will be five 16 month olds. How is the playgorund area at Hoyt Farm Park? Do you need to be a resident of Smithtown in order to go there or can you pay to get in? Is it a nice park to have a "family day"? Just wondering if we should pick soemwhere else. TIA!

We have our family picnics there yearly. The playground is amazing! You will definitely be happy there. As far as being a resident, i am not sure. We receive a pass in the mail for the day.

Re: Anyone ever take their LO's under 2 to Hoyt Farm Park?
I wasn't sure so I researched it. My family does a permitted picnic. Here is the info I found:
Hoyt Farm is open to Smithtown Residents year round. Please acquire a Resident Parking Permit sticker at Smithtown Town Hall or show your vehicle registration receipt bearing a Smithtown resident's name and address at the front gate.
**Between Labor Day and Memorial Day we may not have anyone at our front gate. Nonresident vehicles may be issued a summons, so parking is at your own risk**
Hoyt Farm nonresident parking policy for visitors NOT attending a Permitted Picnic:
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, nonresidents that are accompanying a resident in a separate vehicle must be in the vehicle behind the resident and will be required to pay a $7 parking fee. We do not hold names at the front booth. Residents and nonresidents must arrive together. Residents are only entitled to bring in 2 nonresident vehicles per resident vehicle. If you are a nonresident that is not accompanied by a resident you will not be permitted into the park. Between Labor Day and Memorial Day we may not have anyone at our front gate and will not be allowing nonresident vehicles to pay to park even if they are with a resident
Hoyt Farm nonresident parking policy for visitors attending a Permitted Picnic: Nonresidents with a permit holding group must have the name that the permit is under and are required to pay a $7 parking fee per nonresident vehicle. Residents must show proof of residency and are free.

I grew up around the corner. It's a great park, they have a really nice playground area, animals for the kids to look at, a nature center, and lots of trails and fields.
You can't park inside without a resident sticker, but if you go to the neighborhood across the street you can park a block or two away. Just watch for the signs. You can't park on Gannett, but you can park on Peacock (I think that's the first street).

YOu need to either accompany a resident (by following their car in and paying the non-resident parking fee) or be attending a permitted event being hosted by a resident (and again pay the fee).
You cannot just go and pay as a non-resident (at least if parking there - not sure if you can just park somewhere else and walk in).

Re: Anyone ever take their LO's under 2 to Hoyt Farm Park?
I am a smithtown resident and go there all of the time. What Michelle said is definitely true about parking. My twins are 20 months and the playground is really not good for the little ones. Bring a good all terrain stroller if you want to see the animals. You will have to push uphill on rocks/mulch and it can be annoying with a regular stroller (but still doable)
