Why should the show be cancelled? Jussie Smollet clearly has issues. But he's also not the star/creator of the show (from what I know, I don't watch). I do think he should be written out of the show. And let's face it, his career is over.
The Rosanne Barr situation is different. She called Valerie Jarett an ape. On twitter. She was also the creator/star of the show. What was the network supposed to do?
I agree with dianadrw. Not to mention that there was CLEARLY no question as to what Roseann wrote on twitter. Here (although it seems pretty clear what happened), Jussie has not even been charged with anything (yet)

I read that most of his scenes were cut and rewritten. I don’t see him working on Empire too much longer but since nothing is formal I am sure they are hesitant to do anything just yet.

Agreed. He's not the title character even if he is a main character. I'm SURE he'll be written off... rumor is he was being written off anyway and that may be why he did it- to garner sympathy and stay on? I don't know, just a rumor anyway.
But even Roseanne DID come back, just without her.

The whole thing is bizarre. What motivates someone to fake an attack and then think they will get away with it. So weird.
It's a shame that people would want an entire cast and staff to lose their jobs over this one guy faking an attack. I hated to see it happen when it was the staff and cast of Roseanne too, but I realize that scenario was completely different. I never want to see innocent ppl lose their jobs.

People lie all the time, about things not as bad as this and about things worse. If he did lie (and it's looking like he did), I am guessing that he did it thinking he was somehow proving a point, like, "look how racist America is" and "look how homophobic America is" and hey, even if it didn't really happen to me I'm going to pretend it did because it happened to somebody somewhere, right? So let me get the sympathy....let me get the attention...and let me throw in the MAGA hats aspect to further demonize Trump supporters in the process, stirring up more division and outrage! It's a win-win-win!

The liberal media have egg on their faces now for reporting this as fact & causing a huge stir over something that was totally made up & there was no evidence even happened. It certainly doesn’t help promote their agenda of bashing conservatives.
He should absolutely be prosecuted for making false claims! Faking a hate crime should be treated as a hate crime, because that’s what it is. And there should be the same amount of outrage as there was when he made his original claims that everyone went nuts over.
If it’s proven he made it up, which is where this seems to be going, he should of course be fired from his show. But in liberal Hollywood, I highly doubt it. Shameful.

Agreed. The problem is these things DO happen and now when they do and are reported people will point to Jussie Smollett and not believe them. It makes it that much harder for ACTUAL victims. I was outraged for him when the story first broke and now I AM outraged with him. If he was trying to do this to prove a political point he accomplished exactly the opposite.
ETA: I see he turned himself in this morning and will be arraigned today.

Just like they wanted the attackers to be charged. And rightfully so. But he is no longer a victim. And needs to be charged. They need to channel the anger to people who make up stories. I dont care that he's part of the hollywood club. They need speak up when its wrong. Why so quiet now? They should be just as outraged at what he did.

When the story first came out, I was horrified but it just kind of struck me as odd when he said they said "this is MAGA country". Once he said that, I questioned whether this might be some political stunt and I'm pretty sure that little detail is what put doubt in a lot of minds.
I can't believe he thought he would get away with this. Horrible. Chicago PD has far better things to be doing then chasing a fabricated lie. Talk about #fakenews

Same here. I've seen a lot of outrage against him now that the truth has come out. But I don't feel bad for believing him in the first place. Racism and anti-LGBT attacks are all too common in our country right now. For this one made up story I'm sure there are dozens of true stories going unreported, unsolved, and uncovered in the media.
I still can't believe this guy thought he'd get away with it. He's one of the worst criminal masterminds ever. Here's a link to the timeline of events and how the police actually figured out what happened.

My cousins are comparing his story to Olympic John Lochte story. Like no you idiots this is different but anything to keep things racially motivated. I’m so embarrassed to be related to them, they legit give my Hispanic people a bad rep.
