Anyone get 3 car seats across their backseat?

Hi all

I have a 3 year old daughter with twins on the way due in November.

My husband is against getting a minivan as we have an 2007 Santa Fe, a 2007 Elantra and a 2002 Santa Fe. Financially, I don't blame him because right now we are payment free and dont' need an extra bill with twins on the way.

So my question is, does anyone have 3 car seats across their backseat in their car or SUV? Any tips? Suggestions on which car seats are most narrow?

We already have our Graco Snugride from DD, and a friend is lending us another one. DD is currently in the Britax Boulevard, but replacing her seat might be cheaper than a new car.

We have 3 across in our chevy trailblazer. It took some re-arranging to get them to work, but we have a britax roundabout, chicco base and baby trend base.
I think we need something new before the babies move to a convertible seats, but they are 7 mths and still in the infant seats.

My friend with twins and a baby uses Sunshine KIds carseats (they are only like 16 inches wide) and she fits 3 across in a regular car.
I have a toddler and twins on the way too, we are leaning towards a SUV with 3 rows or more likely a minivan.

Our Santa Fe has a folding 3rd row, but with two buckets, it'd be hard for my DD to climb in and out, plus it takes away from our trunk area which I'll need for a stroller.

my friend has a toddler and twins on the way and they got the honda pilot. All 3 carseats fit in a row. I think you can look it up on carseat.org.

Great to know it can be done! What car seats do you use? I've heard of people going for different brands based on how narrow the bases are, etc.

I had an Acura MDX and we fit the Britax Blvd and 2 snugrides across the back HOWEVER....have my 3 year old in the middle was a disaster! He had to climb over the front seats to get it and then, he was kicking our arms as we were driving. That was even before we had the babies. We had to get a minivan. I'm glad I did b/c my son loved to touch the babies and with the minivan, I don't have to worry about him leaning over and touching them, pulling out their pacifiers or whatever else he might have done.

My daughter already climbs out the front a lot but thanks for the warning on the kicking. We have the same exact 3 car seats so maybe I can make them work and not have to buy a new one.

I think we will eventually breakdown and get a minivan, I'd just rather not have to do it now.

Oh, and the other problem I forgot to mention....because the snugrides are so big, the driver and passenger seats had to be moved way up. DH is tall and it was really uncomfortable for him.

That might not be a problem for us -- I'm barely 5'1" and hubby is 5'4". Our backseat also has the ability to tilt the back a bit, which might help give us a little extra room.

How was your son in climbing over the bases when the carriers were not snapped in, or did he always go in through the front?
