And if so, in what week of your pregnancy? I may be heading for one... Chat Icon I'm so freaked out right now... I am afraid for them and afraid that something bad could happen before they know something's even wrong.Chat Icon

Also what was your cervical length when they decided to do it? I don't think mine has gotten below 3.4 to my knowledge yet dr Kofinas mentioned monitoring it and if necessary getting one between now and 24 weeks.

Eta: I'm 20 weeks today

I had one when I was pregnant with DS-- i was 19w3d when the doc put it in. I can't remember what my cervical length got down to, maybe 3? I also saw Dr. Kofinas, thankfully he's very cautious. They noticed the shortening around 16 weeks.

I also saw dr kofinas and had my cerclage at 24.5 weeks. I had no cervix issue until 21 weeks. Was put on undo methocin and strict bedrest. My cervix got longer by next visit and by 24 weeks I had everyone in my sonogram room giving me medicine, taking cultures and giving me instructions for getting my pre op and getting the cerclage. 2 days later I was in Brooklyn getting the cerclage. Dr Nyguen actually performed the procedure. Dr K saw it afterwards and said he did a phenomenal job. According to dr Nyguen, I was starting to funnel on the operating table. Had I not gotten te cerclage that day, I would have delivered at 24.5 weeks. It's nerve wracking and scary but dr Kofinas knows what he's doing and as long as you trust him, you'll be fine :)

Re: Anyone get a cerclage?

I was terrified at the thought of it, but I honestly credit the cerclage with keeping my boys cooking long enough to be here today.

My cervix started to shorten at 16 weeks. I was on progesterone supps and bed rest for a week to see if that would help.

At 17 weeks it was shorter ... I think around 2.5 cm.

The day after that appointment I was scheduled for an emergency cerclage.

Since my boys were delivered by emergency c-section when my water broke at 31w6d, they removed the cerclage at the same time.

If you are able to make it to term they will just remove it with a simple office visit.

Good luck! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone get a cerclage?

I did.

I had mine done at 22 weeks exactly.

I was FINE before then, had no idea anything was going on. 21w6d I went to the high-risk because of a possible amniotic band. No amniotic band, but they sent me immediately to the hospital (I was on my freakin lunch break at work!!!) to be admitted. I was apparently having 8-12 contractions/hour (of which I was unaware). The next day I had my cerclage done.

Mine was removed during my c-section, but actually started to tear that day (which is why I had to have the babies then... 34w4d).

I do not remember my cervical length, but it was NOT good. It was maybe at 1/4 of what it should have been at the time. Physically, I felt totally fine. I didn't realize that the tightening I was having was actual contractions. You can message me here or on FB (or email) to chat!

Re: Anyone get a cerclage?

I didn't...I went into PTL at 24wk0d with a cervical length just over 1cm. I was already 1 cm dilated as well so they told me it was too late for the cerlage. Luckily, with meds and hospital bedrest the babies stayed in an extra 3 1/2 weeks before being born.

I know it seems scary, but if the doctors are recommending the cerlage definitely do it before you pass a point where you can do it anymore. I have heard of a lot of twin mommy's getting it done and then going to full term!

Best wishes!Chat Icon

Re: Anyone get a cerclage?

Did he put you on indomethacin and procardia? Mine went to 2.7, I think. I was 26 weeks. They had me on indo for a few days and we went back to 40. That meant it wasn't weak it was just the babies pressure. I was 27.5 weeks by the time I asked about cerclage. They said I didn't need it because it wasnt weak. Good Sam will only do it til 26 weeks. Winthrop will do it til 28 but both drs didnt want to risk breaking my water when there wasnt as much risk of shortening. O bed rest (or modified) was all i could do. It fluctuated btwn 3.5 and 2.5. I think it went to 19 at the end but they said that's normal. They never checked again after 34 weeks but I was (supposedly) dialated 2/3 cm at my 36 week apt and delivered that night.

They typically do it around 20 but mine wasnt an issue til 26.

Re: Anyone get a cerclage?

Yes, Dr. Kofinas put in a late term cerclage at 26 weeks as an emergency surgery (my cervix went to under 2 at that point). After the surgery I was put on bed rest, indomethican on weekends for a few weeks and procardia until I was 36 weeks. My water broke 2 days later, had a c-section and babies had no issues. By the time I delivered the only thing holding those babies in were his stitches. I totally 110% credit Dr. K with saving my babies and he is the reason they are here today. Chat Icon
