I probably going to have to get it done in the next month. Can you give me any thoughts? Was your surgery elective or emergency? Did you have it done laproscopicly (sp?) or did they have to open you? What was your recovery time? Which hospital did you go to? What was your surgeon like? Did you feel better?

My surgery was emergency. I kept putting it off, finally I rushed MYSELF to the hospital!! I was in the hospital for a week before they actually did the surgery because I ended up releasing a gall stone that was stuck (don't worry about this).

My recovery time was about 3 weeks before I felt completely back to myself (well that's what I took from work).

It was done laproscopicly (sp?), but still you are sore - I will not lie. And after the surgery I was completely nauseas and full of gas that was causing pain in my shoulders - walking around helps.

My surgeon was really good - Dr. Fitterman - oh wait, actually his colleague did my surgery - I cannot remember her name. But I had it done at New Island Hospital in Bethpage - his office is located in Plainview. Nice guy.

To this day I cannot tolerate many foods. But for me it's hard to pin point because anything can cause a problem for me. Mexican will do a number on my stomach. I don't want to scare you with this - my stomach is horrible, but since my gall bladder has been removed - processing fatty foods is not good for me.

I hope this helps a bit. It's really not that bad, I just had a bad experience since it was emergency I guess.

Mine was done a long time ago ( 13 years) but its still the samer procedure.

It was elective, but I got the Flu on the day of surgery so we postponed and then it became Emergency surgery about 5 months later.

All gall bladders removals are laparosopy these days, they dont cut at all....I have three tiny scars and one in my belly button.

I was in the hospital less then 48 hours ( I think its even 24 hours now a days) and I went to St Catherines.

I was sore badly for about 2 days and then it got better. A week later I was almost healed and 2 -3weeks later felt fine.

ETA- Yes I forgot those gas pains. The gas pains in the shoulders was bad for me too. Probably worse part of it ...

And I can eat anything..I have no problems now a days with food.

I had it done. I had it sort of done half elective half emergency. I was getting the pains, they diagnosed it and said 'next time you have an attack, we'll put you in the hospital and take it out'. So like an idiot (I was only 12) I went and ate my trigger food on a Friday (Ice cream) and went in the hospital. Of course, they couldnt schedule it till Monday, so I was stuck in the hospital over the weekend Chat Icon

Laproscopic is SO much better than the normal way. You only have 3 small incisions, and within hours I was up and walking around. My mother had the surgery a couple of months earlier, but she had it the regular way. She had a huge incision from her breasts down to her belly button and was in pain for much longer.

Recovery time was short - I think I was out next day because it was laproscopic; and maybe for 3 or so days I just layed around and took it easy. The one thing I remember is - ask for extra pillows! If you get it done laproscopcly, (I realize I've spellt that word differently every time i wrote it) it will give you a little ease if you put some pillows under your knees; it will give you a little slack in the skin around your belly to relax.

Don't worry, you'll be fine. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone get his/her gall bladder removed?

I had my gallbladder out last year. It was emergency surgery. I was in the hospital 3 days before the surgery and they let me go home the day after surgery.
I had laproscopic surgery, I have 3 small scars and one right below my belly button. It was uncomfortable afterwards. I was very sore for about 3 days and then it was much better. I didn't experience any of the gas pain that I was told could happen.
I was felt much better after about 2 weeks.
Now a lot of what I eat goes right through me...(sorry TMI) certain foods really mess with my stomach. Other then that, everything is fine and it is much better then the pain I was having from gallstones.

My Mom had hers removed several years ago, and honestly all fatty foods make her run to the bathroom...she can't tolerate anything...no fast food burgers or anything like that.
