Anyone go to Lake George recently (like in the past few years)
Have not been there in about 30 years and am in the process of planning a family vacation.
Is it still nice and family friendly? Is the village still wax museums, ice cream stores, and arcade-type things?
Where did you stay? What would you recommend doing while there?

Re: Anyone go to Lake George recently (like in the past few years)
YES! We love it and my family has been going for 30 years.... We are staying a full week this year with DD, who will be 10 months. We always stay at http://www.bonnieviewlakegeorge.com/ . It's closer to Bolton Landing than the Village- approx 10-15 min drive into the village. Bolton Landing is great though! (it's where the Sagamore is which you can see from the Bonnie View). The property has poolside motel rooms (by the road) or cabins scattered down the property all the way down to the lake. There are a few that are right on the water. There are about 25-30 people each year in my family that go up- all various ages (Great Grandparents through newborn). Check out the website and you'll see tons of pics and details. FM me for more information!! Good Luck

Yes all the stuff that makes Lake George so quirky are still there! My favorite thing about Lake George...the old lady psychic card giver machine at the arcade...have loved it since I was a kid...I actually asked them if I could buy it but they won't sell it :) We are going in a few weeks and can't wait! Staying at a place we've never stayed at before but it looks GREAT! Email me if you need any info!

Re: Anyone go to Lake George recently (like in the past few years)
we went last year and had a good time. everything was great except for the hotel--scottys motel. YUCK!!!! stay far far away! the location of it was great, it was on the lake and the pool was nice but the rooms were full of mold, the AC didn't work and the smell of cigarette smoke permeated everything. we had to leave a day early because we couldn't take it anymore.
the town was great--we did all the local tourist places too.

Yes, I've been going there since I was 6.
For the past few years we've been staying at the Sufside. It's in the village. It's great if you have little ones. You can walk to everything so you're not constantly dealing with the car seat.
The Surfside has a new set of rooms on the water. That's where we stayed last year. We had a great room on the ground floor. I could sit on the beach while DD napped in the room since our room was so close to the lake. We locked the front door and the sliding glass door to the lake was always in my view.

I can't really recommend a place to stay because I always stay with my family and friends when I go back up there. But I grew up in Bolton Landing, and still go up there several times a year, so can prob. answer lots of question that ou may have. Just let me know. Try to do the Mini Haha steamboat of you can, it's so pretty just to go up the lake. My summer Job was on the big dinner boat, and I never go bored.

We went and stayed at the Great Escape Lodge, which is about 20 minutes from the lake and perfect for families. The hotel is standard holiday inn style, clean and modern but nothing unique. The best part is the indoor water park which was lots of fun.

We went two years ago. It was a great vacation. We stayed at the Country Inn and Suites next to the Great Escape amusement park, and I don't recommend it. We weren't thrilled with the hotlel, but the Lake George area itself was great!
