Anyone going to PA in July?

I have a family trip planned for Lancaster in July. I’m so torn if we should still go as they just entered the “green phase” on June 26th.

Anyone else planning on still going?

What activities are you planning on doing there?

Re: Anyone going to PA in July?

I was supposed to go to Hershey on Monday but the park isn't opening until July 2nd I think and that was our day to leave there. We could have pushed it out but they are requiring masks and no way am I walking around a theme park that has a ton of walking in heat and humidity Iike this with a mask on. Last year it was so oppressively humid when we were there that I actually started to feel unwell and had to find a cooling station and rest. I felt close to heat exhaustion, no joke. No way could I or anyone for that matter wear a mask all day in that kind of weather.
So we'll use the tickets next year.
If I were you, I'd just check what attractions are open in Lancaster and what the rules and restrictions are before I made my decision. Sometimes it's not worth it if lots of things will be closed or very restrictive.

Anyone going to PA in July?

Right now, we are only comfortable going to states with very low infection rates- NY, NJ, CT, & MA. PA is reporting significantly higher numbers than we are.
This summer we are spending six weeks in CT, with a side trip to Cape Cod. I would not go to PA this summer, but that's just me. We are limiting where we travel for the time being.

I agree with this. I just feel like it is not worth the risk. Granted this entire situation has me quite anxious so maybe I am not the person you should be taking advice from. Only recently have we really ventured out and every time I am uncomfortable. We just joined a pool club and it is giving me A LOT of anxiety, but my son needs something to do. The few times we have went, we make sure to stay very far away from other families. I actually told him that if it is too crowded for me that we will need to leave and come back at another time. They have a small park there and I am the only parent who makes their child wear a mask.

We are in Williamsburg, VA now and going from here to Hershey. We will be in Hershey from July 1 - 4. Park is opening to the general public on July 3rd and season passholders on July 1 & 2. We will have to wear masks in the park. We are assuming it will be pretty empty. We have been traveling for the past 3.5 weeks so our comfort level is pretty high. Most of the things that we do are outdoors but we do eat at indoor dining. The numbers in most places are no where near what they were in the NY metro area right when this all happened. I understand we are taking a risk but I perceive it to be pretty small. Even if we do get it, we are all very low risk so I am not concerned. We aren't spending time with anyone who is higher risk and have no plans to.

My daughter plays on a travel softball team. The next 3 weekends we are in PA and CT for tournaments. We have always been very low on the panic scale so I'm not overly worried. We will take basic precautions and expect everything will be fine.

I'm so bummed we aren't going. We really look forward to that trip each summer. I just know I couldn't handle the mask all day in the heat. I barely handle the heat and all the uphill walking there without a mask. Chat Icon
Let me know how it is crowd wise etc . I am sure it will be low crowds so that's good.
Are they opening the water park too?

Re: Anyone going to PA in July?

We rented a house last week at the Poconos and did nothing but enjoying the pool, hot tub, grill and bigger space. We live in a small apartment in the city, so it was a good break, so for it, it was worth it. Only DH went outside to get groceries.

my parents have a RV at a campsite in PA. My dad has been going weekly (my mom goes with him some weeks .. he is retired she isn't). He mostly stays on the camp site but has gone to restaurants/bars and some stores.

He has told me that at the camp ground all activities seem to be open

My understanding is the water park will be open. Not sure how they will enforce masks at the water park. I will keep you posted. We will be there the first day it’s open to non season pass holders so we assume it will still be very clean. We are staying at the lodge and the indoor water park will be open there. I spoke to someone there and they said there is a lot of availability in the hotel so we shouldn’t have a problem getting connecting rooms or getting into the water park.

We just got back from PA yesterday. We have a place in the Poconos in a community. Most of the amenities are not open, but we were able to take the kids to the lake. Everyone was pretty much keeping their distance. I would have no problem, but I think it depends where you are going.

I am interested in a CT vacation! Any recommendations on where to stay? I saw Mystic has still a lot closed.

We are staying in Madison. It a beachfront community about 90 minutes from NYC, just off of Exit 61 of I-95. There are summer rentals, but also nice resorts. Madison Beach Hotel, and the Water's Edge in nearby Westbrook. Because our stay is long term, we are renting a house.

Those places look beautiful. I was looking to book something for July to replace our Hershey trip but I'm torn because all the rules... wear a mask at the pool except when sitting or swimming, wear a mask to the beach, half capacity at the pool so you'll have to be up at the crack to snag a chair, half capacity at the restaurants so again, have to reserve in advance, no this, no that. As much as I am dying to go away, I am hesitant to spend the money and have it be a less than ideal experience.
We had Cape May booked since the fall so I'm still going there and I'll suck up whatever i have to do. But every time I get close to pulling the trigger on a July trip, I read the rules of the resorts and I just am like- ehhhhh....
It sucks.

It was relatively empty considering what it is probably normally like this time of year. We were able to go into a few of the buildings and tour the grounds of a lot of others. We spent about 4.5 hours there and I don't think my kids would have lasted much longer even if everything had been open. Masks were required in all buildings and they limited the number of groups at a time so everyone was spaced out appropriately.

We are staying at Kingsmill which is a beautiful resort. Most of it is closed now but the main pools are opening next week so I think it will be a lot better then. My husband and son are golfing right now and my daughters and I just went shopping in the outlets that are nearby. Most restaurants are open for dining at limited capacity.

We got a great deal on the resort because there's no housekeeping, the restaurants here are closed except one take out etc. I am sure the prices will go up soon. If Busch Gardens opens soon then there will be a lot more to do. We were on our way back from South Carolina. Not sure I would do the drive from Long Island for what is open right now but like I said a lot more is opening next week.

And so many resorts, with the pool you have to sign up and have like an hour or two at the pool. Yet the prices are all INSANE. It doesn't sound so great to me!!

We went to Newport and the pool was open, masks not required, but they weren't allowed to have chairs at the pool. Chairs galore on the lawn (this resort was on the water), but couldn't have them in the pool. This stuff makes no sense.

PA is listed "at risk" for an outbreak. NY, NJ, CT, & MA are the only states considered to have the virus under control.

When and where are you heading to in PA? I still haven’t canceled our stay at the Eden Resort.. I keep going back and forth. They said the housekeepers won’t be cleaning the rooms everyday- only before you arrive and will leave towels outside our door. I see this as a good thing, but then I think about being in such a public place and eating out 3 times a day. Chat Icon

Honestly, I'd rather have the housekeeping daily. I'd want the surfaces in my room wiped down daily and my bathroom sanitized too.
