Anyone have a cup of coffee or tea not decaf every morning?

For the past few days I haven't been sleeping and have been having regular coffee in the morning to give me an extra brust of engery. I'm a teacher and need to be on my toes and I feel like the coffee has been helping.

Is this really bad? Its only a small cup once a day for the past 3 days.

Different OBs will have different opinions on this....Thankfully, my OB was totally fine with caffeine in moderation.

my OB is fine with it....

I had decaf all first TRI

but now 2nd TRI I have one cup of caff coffee in the morning..I'm too exhausted otherwise. We can try to do our best, but we still have stuff to do, ya know? I felt guilty for a bit, but I haven't drank alcohol once, or had any artificial sugar, so I'm hoping it'll balance out.

If it really bothers you, can you do half caf/half decaf?


I now drink a small cup of caf in the morning, and sometimes decaf later on in the day.

No... but you just reminded me that I left my decaf lemon tea downstairs!!!

I read in my book "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" that it was okay to have up to 400mg of caffeine which was about 8 cups of coffee (5oz). I don't know who drinks 5oz of coffee but your one cup is fine.

I eat chocolate semi often and I did have one cup of regular coffee because one Saturday morning, DH's coffee just smelled soooooooo good!!!

I do a small cup every morning. I was not doing it for the entire first trimester, and once second trimester hit, probably later, like week 20.. I started to re-introduce caffeine. I am a teacher too, and sometimes, I NEED the coffee.. especially now at almost week 33, I am just exhausted...

I was able to give up coffee/tea w/o a problem... but I do have a glass of coke-a-cola or ice tea every couple of days....

With my 1st I drank it all the time- it never seemed to effect him in utero...

with this pregnancy- one sip of caffeine brings on a lot of movement- so I do try to have very little of it...


My Dr said in moderation it was fine...

Good that you mention, My OB said no caffeine in the first trimester I did not have coffee at all in the first trimester, trimester I started having decaff , but Today I ran out of decaf and made regular coffee and was feeling very guilty but most people I know never stopped their daily cup of regular coffee...so I'm glad to see the other responses, I feel better.

Ok I'm glad there is a lot of us having coffee in the morning. I'm 17 weeks and didn't have any coffee in the 1st tri. I need it to get through my morning with these kids lol. And with not sleeping well at all I really need this pick me up!! Thanks for the replying

i have half a medium tea from dunkin sometimes not decaf also ice tea fresh brewed. i think its ok

around 2nd tri I was having half reg and half decaf. I'd still be drinking it if it wasn't causing me bad stomach aches. Yuck!!

i have a cup of reg coffee almost everyday , my ob said its ok

Every single day. And sometimes I even have a caffeinated soda with lunch! I've heard from several different sources to just keep it under 300mg, and I'm no where near that, even with the chocolate that is a fairly steady part of my diet. My dr. never even mentioned cutting out caffeine.

I drank 2 cups of coffee (real coffee) everyday. I had none for the first tri, then I was back to the caffine.

My OB said, one cup of coffee per day, that's it.
So I randomly will have a cup when I really really need it....like this morning!

I was told we are allowed to have a cup of coffee everyday. I stopped when I was suffering from morning sickness because it would make me throw up though.

I drink coffee, tea and diet coke everyday. Not bucket loads, but I have a cup of each a day, I did with my first son and he turned out okay.

I have regular occasionally.


What to Expect says you can have 200mg a day.
1 8oz of coffee is 185mg.

so you are within the range.

I have one cup of coffee every morning. My OB said that it is fine.

I have since 14 weeks bc of migraines. Not coffee, but tea or iced tea (1/2 cup).

I have one cup almost every morning. My ob thinks it's fine as long as you have the caffine in moderation.
