Re: Anyone have a DC with a belly button hernia??
my DD has it..
I noticed it right away, everyone told me there was nothing wrong she just had an outtie belly button,
I finally asked the ped at her month appt and he said it would most likely go away on its own.
at 11 months its gotten a lot better but its still sticks out a bit.

Re: Anyone have a DC with a belly button hernia??
Thank You. DS is only 2 weeks old and his umbilical cord has not fallen out but it is protruding a lot. I am so afraid he will have a hernia.

Re: Anyone have a DC with a belly button hernia??
DD's was evident at birth. The first time I saw DD after recovery in my room, I asked the nurse about it, she blew me off and said it was normal. Ummm..NOT. When the ped came by my room I asked again about it and he told he she had an umbilical hernia. She's 1 now and still has it. My ped says it looks better each time we go, but I think it looks the same. They won't do surgery until at least 3 years old. It's cosmetic - if we did nothing she's be fine.
I feel awful and I know it's vain, but it really bugs me. I always make sure she has a onesie on when wearing 2 pcs outfits in case her shirt rides up and I stocked up on one piece outfits for summer.

Re: Anyone have a DC with a belly button hernia??
Both my dd and my nephew had them at birth. By 1 year of age they had gone away. It does take awhile, and at 3 my dd finally is getting an innie belly button!

Re: Anyone have a DC with a belly button hernia??
My DD was born with it. At almost 5 its still there. Every year the doctor said it should go away on its own. Its not bad at all but at this point I doubt its going away. He said no need for surgery unless it is causing her pain which it is not. My friends daughter had it but it was the size of a golf ball. Haileys looks more like a marble.

Re: Anyone have a DC with a belly button hernia??
Thats so weird that you posted this...
My DD has had one since birth, and just this week I thought I noticed it get WORSE and not better... like more poking out then usual... I am going to bring it up to her next ped appointment... She is 18 months now...
ETA... like just noticed it overnight looking worse then usual, IDK if she maybe pulled something the day before or something... IDK really how it works, but everyone told me it was going to get better, but just the other day I noticed it get worse. ;-(

Re: Anyone have a DC with a belly button hernia??
DD had one, it closed over time. The hernia closed itself by 3 years. She was checked yearly by a surgeon to monitor it. She has an outie belly button. Her pediatrician mentioned the possibility of cosmetic surgery but I would not put her under anesthesia or through surgery that wasn't medically necessary.
Her clothes cover it and I choose swim suits that cover her torso and shoulders anyway to protect her from the sun.
It gets noticed occasionally. I just brush it off that we are all different and unique. I have a minor outie as well so to her it's not an issue yet. Some day if she chooses to correct it we'll consider surgery but not until she is much older.

Re: Anyone have a DC with a belly button hernia??
DD#2(3yrs old) has one. I noticed it very early on. When she started sitting up, it seemed even worse. It is now, at age 3, a little better. The Ped just checked it and said that if it does not go away by 5, it will not go away. It will need surgery, but it is stricly cosmetic.
