Anyone have a split level with central a/c? I have an odd question...
Where do you have your thermostat? We just got central a/c installed and they put the thermostat in the upstairs hallway. They guy said that because heat rises it would be the hottest part of the house. We have our regular thermostat on the wall in the hallway downstairs where you walk in. We are noticing that there is always a 4 degree temp difference in the readings with the downstairs being hotter than the upstairs so the a/c is not really kicking on properly. Just wondering where everyone had theirs before I ask the guy to move it.

I have a split and we have CAC (it was here when we bought the house). Our thermostat for the air conditioning is also upstairs (by the bedrooms).
I actually feel that our family room/den, on the lower level, is always the coolest and the upstairs is always a little warmer.

Same here. The thermostat is in the hallway by the bedrooms. The den stays the coolest - probably because it's the half underground room.

Yeah, the den is not really a problem. It's more the LR/DR and kitchen that are on the first floor. It's always warmer here than upstairs by the bedrooms.

We have a split and had the CAC replaced before we moved in, and had two zones installed, one for the upper floor with the bedrooms, and one for the two lower floors. So we have one thermostat on the middle floor by the living room, and the other in the master bedroom.

shut the vent closest to the thermostat. That will make more air blow downstairs and even the temps.
We have a high ranch and our thermostat is downstairs - we shut half the vents downstairs since it is always cooler down here, to make upstairs the same temp. works great.

Ours is on the main level in the hallway right before you get to our kitchen. Our bedrooms are always hotter.

We have two units. Main level and bedrooms. Never had an issue with it getting hot upstairs

We have a colonial but have the same exact problem! Our living room where our heat thermostat is, is always 3-4 degrees warmer than the upstairs where the CAC thermostat is. I just went up and lowered the temp bc i felt warm downstairs.
No advice but I have heard that this is normal.
