Anyone have any quick/easy/inexpensive remidies to ride of flies/mosquitos??
We're having a BBQ for our DS's baptism on Sunday and I was outside w/ DH doing some prep-work in the yard. Noticed a lot of flies and mosquiots.
ANy ideas/thoughts on how to get ride of or ward them off??

find the pool of water, and drain it... That's where the mosquitos come from...

www.burtsbees.com
Herbal insect repellant (oil you put on your skin).
Safe and works, but of course, must be applied to skin and is a bit oily at first (but soaks in).
You can get it at Whole Foods and other stores.

I agree with finding the standing water, it might be in an upside down garbage can lid or a bird bath. It only takes a couple of days for hundreds of mosiqitoes to come out of a few inches of rainwater. There are nontoxic tablets you can buy that repel skeeters, so you can put one in your bird bath. I would also fill up your bird feeders & try to get lots of birds in your yard, some birds eat skeeters. As for the flies, they like dead stuff & poop...so they are hanging around because there is something nearby that they like. There are very simple liquid fly traps you can buy in big garden centers or home depot or any place that sells horse supplies. You can hang a couple in your yard away from where your guests will be. The very best way to elinimate pest bugs is by encouraging beneficial bugs into your yard by creating a healthy ecology system.

We bought cutter yard guard over the weekend - it is one that you attach to the water hose and spray every where - we haven't had ONE in about a week

And bats!! They can eat a tremendous amount of bugs in 1 night.

They have it at home depot. I will see if I can find a picture of it for you
Here you go
They have a fogger too - but that only last a couple of hours.
Get the spray soooo much better. My daughter is allergic to bites and this has worked so well this week - not one bite

ok, this might sound weird, but my uncle told my parents to do this, and it worked. If you have flies outside etc (or even in the house) get a clear plastic bag and fill it with water. Then hang it from a hook in the cieling or off of something. For some reason flies hate it. It is very weird, but works!
