Anyone have dark/black granite countertops?

Just curious how they are with finger prints, smudges, food spills and such.

We have Amazon Ubatuba (dark greenish black) on order but until the day (within two weeks) they are cut, we can change our mind. I love the Ubatuba but still wonder if I should go lighter.

They are not bad at all. HOnestly I thought they would be hard to clean and show everything but they are just the opposite!

I had the Ubba Tubba in our old co-op with the cherry-ish Ikea cabinets. It was beautiful, but YES it did show fingerprints and smears. I learned to deal with it and certain cleaners worked better than others...particularly liked the Sprayway glass cleaner - it was previously sold at restoration hardware and some of the reviews on amazon mentioned how wonderful it was on dark granite. I still loved the granite we chose and I don't think I would have gone back on that decision...some of the lighter granites stain easier and that has more permanent affects - the streaking/fingerprints can be corrected with the right products...

HTH!!!

I have black nero and don't ever have any issues with fingerprints. I don't ever notice smudges b/c once I finish cleaning for the night I spray it all down.

We have "Lady Dream" granite in our kitchen, it is on the lighter side with copper/beige/reddish tones, and I love it. It doesn't stain easily and hides a multitude of sins, and never shows fingerprints.

In my upstairs bathroom however, I got a black granite top for our vanity and it is the bane of my existence! EVERYTHING shows on it (a splash of water even) and I'm always wiping it down. It has convinced me to never get black or super dark granite if we ever do another kitchen.

Thank you all for your thoughts! I'm really thinking more and more, that I'm not going to be thrilled with the dark tops. Especially since we went with DH's choice of stainless appliances which I hear are another fingerprint magnet!

Re: Anyone have dark/black granite countertops?

we have Ubatuba (it was here when we bought the house.) I really don't like it. It shows all of the water spots around the sink and I feel like I constantly need to wipe it down. There are times when I think it's dirty/has a crumb on it, but it's only the specks in the granite. In our old apartment master bath we had a lighter beige with dark brown "swirls" granite and I liked it so much better. If I ever re-do this kitchen, I'd love to put a lighter color in. I also think the lighter colors make the space look larger and brighter. JMO. DH, on the other hand, loves the ubatuba, so I'll have a fight on my hands if I ever want to change it.

We have Blue Pearl granite. I love it. I actually don't notice anything until I clean off the counters at night. Chat Icon I don't notice finger prints at all, but sometimes in the right light I notice a smudge. We went with this color because we wanted SS appliances. I don't have a hard time with fingers prints really. Some smudges on the dishwasher though, but I don't have kids yet, so I might really hate the SS after kids. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have dark/black granite countertops?

The uba tuba is mostly solid black right?

I'm not sure about that one, but we have the Verde Peacock which is mostly black with gray, silvery, green splashes and crystals throughout... hard to explain but below are a few pics I have on this comp of ours.

I honestly have NO problem with fingerprints or smudges, although it took me trying 3-4 bottles of different cleaners to find the right one that didn't leave streaks. I love it!

This is a good pic of what it looks like, although you can only see a small portion of it at the bottom of the pic

I have dark granite countertops and you really can't notice if there are smudges or fingerprints. We also have the stainless steel appliances and I love the look of it all. I think it's a great choice.
