Anyone have experience with high/elevated fluid levels?
At my last appt (25ish weeks) the OB measured my belly and was alarmed by the jump in size from my 21 wk appt. So she ordered a growth sono which I had last week. Now DS was a large baby and he measured 3 weeks ahead for most of the latter half of my pg so I told her I was prepared for this again, no biggie. I was actually surprised when at the growth sono they said that was only measuring a week ahead. Then I get a call the next day from my OB saying that my fluid levels are high and he wants me now to be monitored and have another growth sono in 2 weeks and if it continues to stay high I'll keep getting the sonos to watch it. He says though that he's not worried. Of course stupid me goes and googles and although most sites say most of the time it's absolutely nothing, of course there's a small chance it could be something.
I'm choosing to not worry about it for now, but just wanted to know if any of you had this and what it meant for you? I'm going to be a repeat C so labor won't be an issue unless I go early. Did you have an problems with your pg because of high fluid levels, any issues with the baby, anything at all either way or was it a non-issue? TIA!

First off, get off of the google!!!
Secondly, I experienced the same thing with my DS. They monitor you more closely, which is great b/c you get to see the baby more regularly. The problem comes towards the end if the levels are still high, they will induce you b/c they would not want your water to break b/c your umbilical cord could prolapse. Really no biggie...they will be monitoring you so that won't happen. Another great side effect of that was that because of the extra fkuid, my #D sonograms were the best that the sonogram tech had ever seen!!!!!

crashing
my levels were high from 32 weeks on. It was idiopathic (as it is for 85% of woman) - no reason for it. DS never dropped so I never dilated and we elected for a csection at 40w2d ... labor was nowhere in sight for me.
I was worried at first but read that it is pretty common and MANY woman here have very similar experience with it!

mine was as a result of GD......
My OB said this at first because I had also just taken my 1 hr so he said let's see what the results are, but, I passed so we know it's not that.

Re: Anyone have experience with high/elevated fluid levels?
How high was your number? Do you know? Did they find any other markers that might be an issue? - Failed GD test? etc. I wouldn't worry about it most women are idiopathic.
I had it with DD#1 (not with DD#2). They originally found an abnormally small stomach that wasn't filling fast enough on my level II. I ended up having to transfer from a Maternal fetal OB at NSUH Manhasset to Columbia Presbyterian. B/c they thought DD might need surgery at birth. In the end she was perfectly fine.
Usually high fluids often have no known reason. I didn't have GD and DD turned out to not have the condition that it was a red flag for.
For me - it made my pregnancy uncomfortable, and I had a lot of preterm contractions. I ended up on bed rest for the last 6-8 weeks of my pregnancy. I was commuting to NYC for work and they felt that was too much.
In the end my levels went down to normal suddenly about 35 or 36 weeks (I was not leaking fluid they checked). I went into labor on my own at 38weeks 3 days. B/c of the excess fluid however it stretched out the muscles which made my contractions weaker than they should have been. But if you are having a scheduled csection this shouldn't be an issue for you. If your levels are too high they have the option of draining some of the fluid - but I never ended up needing that even though my levels were up there.
Both my girls btw always measured large (98% or so) DD#1 was 9lbs 4 ozs.
High fluid I think is pretty common. Whatever you do DON"T google - it is your worst enemy.

I didn't ask for numbers, I'm going to call and ask now that you mention it. Just passed my 1 hr and there were no markers (at least that I was made aware of) at my anatomy scan or my ultrascreen.

If they didn't tell you then it probably wasn't that high that they are concerned.

Re: Anyone have experience with high/elevated fluid levels?
As a result, I also had a ton of Braxton Hicks early on and was very large in the stomach only...which my mother referrred to as "a freak of nature" b/c i was small everywhere else. Around 37 weeks it was difficult for me to breath, i couldn't fit behind the wheel of my car, couldn't eat hardly anything and just felt plain horrible.
On a side note, because of all of the water i looked huge, but lost all of the stomach girth very shortly after giving birth (like 8 days or so) because it was all baby and water!!

I'm already enormous, and all belly, which is good. But I was also all belly with DS was back in prepg clothes pretty quick so I can't complain there. Everyone called me the human torpedo, I couldn't fit in a doorway with my back to the doorframe but if I turned around you would have no idea at all I was pg from behind. I'm already uncomfortable, my bellly button already popped (never did with DS). I just feel allover alot bigger and out in front now than I ever did with DS and like I said I was all belly with him too.
On a sidenote I have no idea what I'll do if I can't drive. When I was pg with DS we were living in the city so driving was never an issue, now, DS has classes, I have errands, etc....w-t-f am I going to do if I can't fit behind the wheel?!?!
ETA: that they blur out what the eff...

Re: Anyone have experience with high/elevated fluid levels?
I have high fluid levels because of diabetes. I get monitored twice a week. It is nice because I get to see the baby and hear the heartbeat a lot. I have a growth sono every 2 weeks or so. Yesterday the baby was measuring about 7.6lbs so they want to plan a c section in case I don't go on my own. The dr. doesn't think I can push the baby out. The baby also moves a lot. They tell me it's because of all of the fluid.

just had DD on friday - same exact issue. I had GD (diet controlled) yet my AFi was 25. I was 4 cm and they couldn't break my water bc she wouldn't descend and since my fluid was so high they were worried about the cord. ended up with a C.
