Anyone have gallbladder problems/surgery? + need rec in Nassau
Anyone have gallbladder problems? Did you have surgery? Can you tell me about the surgery if you had it, pros and cons?
Also can you recommend a surgeon to remove the gallbladder if in Nassau? Thanks

Laprascopic all the way.
I was walking around later that day. I just have 3 small incisions.
My mother, wasn't eligible for laprascopic and couldn't walk for 3 days and had a huge incision.
Sorry had it done in Suffolk so no recommendations.

What made you have it done? Can you tell me more about your attacks leading up to having it out, etc? Fm if you prefer.
Thanks!!!

Re: Anyone have gallbladder problems/surgery? + need rec in Nassau
I have gall stones. I had attacks when I was 17 and I am 28 now and still have not have my gallbladder removed.
My mother had the laproscopic surgery down when it first came out and she had problems (but they were the fault of the surgeon - they left stiches in her )
For some reason, after I started having the attacks at 17 I went on a no/low fat diet and they went away and the attacks never came back although the stones are still there.
Hope you feel better
ETS: Since they haven't bothered me I haven't bothered with the surgery. If I ever start having attacks again, it is going bye-bye!

Re: Anyone have gallbladder problems/surgery? + need rec in Nassau
I had my son in 5/2005 and within a month I was having these terrible pains on the middle of my chest at night. At first I thought it was related to having the baby but after an ultrasound we realized it was my gallbladder. The attacks were so painful and lasted for hours. When the doctor told me it was from fatty and greasy foods I watched what I ate until I had the surgery laproscopically. I went in to have the surgery and was home that night. I was a little sick from the pain meds but within a few weeks I was back to normal. The doctor told me I had over 200 gallstones and that is what causes the pain when they get stuck. I would suggest seeing your doctor first and then an ultrasound if you think it is the gallbladder.

I was only 14 when I had it removed. The gallstones were caused because I lost 60 pounds very rapidly on WW.
I would have painful attacks. Emergency room, whole deal. After a while I realized that eating high-fat foods would set it off. Actually I thought it was more milk products would set me off.
After tests and a sonogram they confirmed I had the gallstones. The doctors said "OK, well the next time you have an attack, we'll put you in the hospital and operate on you."
Like an idiot (hey, I was young..) I could not take the anticipation anymore and was so scared that I just wanted it over. So I sat myself down to a huge bowl of ice cream, knowing it would make me sick. So, I got the pains, mother took me to the ER, they admitted me. Only problem here? I did it on a FRIDAY evening. Of course, no surgery until Monday. So I had to spend the weekend in the hospital for no reason. Hey, I said I was young and stupid.
A couple of years later, my mother needed the surgery - but for some reason, I forget why they could not do it for her laprascopicly. It was MUCH harder recovery for her.
The one tip I have is that after the surgery, ask for lots of extra pillows and put them under your knees. Your stomach/skin/incision will be helped by putting up your knees - it won't make the area as tight.

It is DH and he had severe attacks that we went to the ER twice in the last 2 weeks.
He had the U/S and they did see gallstones, in addition to slight liver blood work that is abnormal. So we need to get a surgical opinion.
This also happened to him 10 years ago so this is nothing new. We have him on a low fat/no fried food, etc, but he still had an attack so we do agree it needs to come out.

Sorry..had to feed DS dinner. Yes, I was admitted about 4AM Monday and had surgery Tues. night. I had Laproscopic. Back in January I had my son and this happened in June. My nurses and my surgeon said Its VERY common in women who just had babies. I *think* I had to sign papers, that if they could NOT do it laproscopic, they had to basically cut me open. I did good with the lap though. I have 4 little incisions. Recovery was good. A little sore, but, good. I actually had to stay an extra night (My surgeon recommended it) because in his exact words "My gall bladder was very sick". He wanted me to recover in the hospital so they can keep an eye on me.

Re: Anyone have gallbladder problems/surgery? + need rec in Nassau
Hi there..sorry to hear that you might be in pain with your gallbladder..I had the attacks and they were the most excrutiating thing...I had pains, had ultrasounds compared from the previous year and had a second opinion at a gastro in Great Neck (if you've not had one, I'll look for it) and my surgery (as well as my mom's two weeks earlier as emergency..long story) were both done by Dr. DeNoto at North Shore..BEST hospital experience ever even though I ended up staying a day later, I was fine within a couple of weeks (laproscopic) and now eat anything and am fine (don't really eat a high fat diet anyways) FM if you want more info. and good luck..feel fine!
eta i developed the stones after losing about 30 lbs in a month...too fast, using Medifast...

Re: Anyone have gallbladder problems/surgery? + need rec in Nassau
on Nov 13 of 2003 I had my gallbladder out,Originally i was told by another Dr. a few years earlier which 'he' was wrong said that i had Acid reflux...'BUT' I had pains in my right side and in the middle/lower of my back... at first i thought it was my appendixs because i got sick, they did a sono and a scan of my stomach which i had to drink this dye and wait 1 day than went back for the test, Sorry i forgot the name of the test. Well I was told My gall bladder was diseased and had to get it out,I was suppose to have it laposcopic But because it was infected as well as disease they had to do the major surgery, i went in the hospital on a thursday and was out on that sunday.
