anyone have personal experience with East Rockaway school district?

I've lived near ER my entire life and have preconceived notions about the school district based on where I grew up. I'm now trying to look at it with an open mind since we're seeing some houses we like and I'm ignoring the district rivalry I grew up with.

Does anyone have kids actually in the schools? Are you happy with it? How is the combined jr/sr high school?

My cousin's kids go there and I am not too pleased with what I see of their special education program. As it's looking now, my kids won't need the program, but since I'm very knowledgable about special ed, I don't like a lot of what I hear from her, although she herself is fine with it.

I am in the ER SD. I am actually selling my home right now. I am a lynbrook, zip, part of the village of lynbrook, with East Rock sd.

I do not have experience in district yet as my DD is 2.5 years old but we are zoned for Centre Ave and it is a blue ribbon school and they are very proud of this status. The other elementary school is Rhame Ave but that is not near me and I do not know much about it. all I know is its a fine school.
I do know that the elementary schools are great (from my neighbors with kids).

The high school from what I know of the negative is just that it is small. My neighbors that have been on the block forever said their kids went there and they received great educations. They also said the school has come a long way since then and they have heard its even better now. The younger families on my block are too young at this time for the HS (kids are in Centre Ave) but they all say they have no problem sending their kids there.

I am not sure if I helped you at all as I dont have first hand experience but if we dont sell my DD will be going to Centre Ave and I am fine with that.
