Anyone have recent experience with Spirit airlines?
We want to go to Myrtle Beach over spring break in April. As of now it's about $260 per person. I'm hoping Yo get it for under $200. Does anyone know if that's likely? If I book at $260, will they honor any price reductions?

What days are you flying on?
Historically, their flights tend to increase as the travel date gets closer but, if you are flying out on an off day (Tues or Weds) you usually can get lower fares. They pretty much own the market from NY to MB so they are probably your best bet.
Also - if you join their $9 fare club, you may be able to get a discount - only one person in your family has to join to get the fares as long as you book all the tickets together.
I doubt they would honor price changes.
Also - keep in mind they charge for everything - except to walk on the plane and place a bag under your seat.

My FIL flew on spirit, he said it was no problem however they charge you for everything....if you want a specific seat, your carry on, your checked luggage, if you want to reserve a seat and so on. Luckily he just took a carry on and was flying solo so it didn't cost him too much.

Do they charge for bags in the overhead? My in laws will be driving down and can take some of our luggage and DHs golf clubs. I would really only need to bring one overhead bag to bring us all a change of clothes and a bathing suit until my in laws arrived.

Yes - I think it's $30 if you pre-pay. It's cheaper to actually check a bag than to put one in the overhead

Re: Anyone have recent experience with Spirit airlines?
i fly to MB every year.. and of course forced to fly Spirit since its the only airline that goes non stop there from NY.... wait until they have a sale, in fact i think today you can use the coupon code "35off" for $35 off your flight... Usually i would get DH and I round trip tickets for a little over $400 pp. As far as the carry on, spirit is infamous for charging you $30 for carry ons, but last time I went, I brought a large tote with me as a carry on and they did not check/charge me for it ... so maybe you can get away with it if its just not something large that needs to be rolled so they don't notice. Another thing we did once is DH and I put our stuff in one large suitcase and checked it to save some $$ (versus paying for carry on).. good luck and enjoy your trip!

Re: Anyone have recent experience with Spirit airlines?
With the 35off code the flights are $222 per person round trip, plus the fee for picking our seats, so $244 pp. Is that about as good (cheap) as it's going to get? My in laws are driving down and will bring all if our stuff so we don't have to check anything.

What day of the week are you travelling? They tend to have cheaper prices mid-week - and those tend to fluctuate.
If you are leaving on a weekend and it's spring break, I think that's probably the best you are going to do.
The lowest I've ever paid, after everything has been said and done, was $90pp and it was in September. Usually I pay around $200 to go in May.
