Anyone have renters insurance?
How does it work? Do you make monthly payments or lump sum? How much are you covered for and how much do you pay a year? Please fm me because I completely understand if this is personal info. Thanks!

I don't have it anymore, but when I did, I just paid it upfront. It was like $240/year.

We have it. I honestly do not recall the price because DH pays the bill, but we also have our rings on there. The purpose of renters insurance is to cover your contents. If you're living in an apt bldg or a private home their insurance is not going to cover your "stuff".

I'm getting it (I just got a quote yesterday in the high 100's/year). I decided to get it after my good friend's apartment burned down last month and not only did she lose everything, but her neighbors are suing her too for damage to their apt. (It was an electrical fire.)

I paid $30 a month and that was high b/c I was a block from the beach
and b/c I have an extra rider to cover clothing, shoes and family items

Yes...what it covers is the entire personal property you bring into apt.
You need to determine if you had a fire and lost everything what it would take to replace everything...ex: 25k, 35k
Each policy as includes liability coverage
as well.

yup, with Allstate. I pay $170 a year
ETA: my rings are insured through a separate policy that DH has.

We have it through State Farm and pay $101 every 3 months. We added a rider that covers for my e-ring and wedding band.

we have it through Country Wide (our car insurance company)... I believe it is about $20.00 per month... we only got $25,000 coverage...

We have it through Geico. I paid it all up front but I think it was about $300, including our wedding bands. Right now our policy states that if something happens to the rings while they're on me, we're covered.

We have it through allstateand we pay itaspartof ourcar insurance bill. It's actually free, because we savedmore on our car insurance with the multi-policy discount by getting it than the policy actually costs!

Yes... I make a lump sum payment every 6 months. Its about $400/year, that includes insurance on jewlery also though.

We have State Farm and pay about $35 a month. It covers all of our personal stuff in the appt as well as additional riders for my e-ring and wedding band. We pay it monthly.
When we sat with the State Farm agent, we went through a list of things that we might have in our apt. as well as approximate value. I think we actualy upped the amount for electronics such as computers and TVs since what we have is pretty expensive.

oh definitely! when I had my car insurance though them, I got a 5% discount. you might get even more if you have 2 cars insured with them.

Ours is almost $500. with extra riders for jewelry and camera equipment. Our options were limited also because we are only a few blocks from the ocean. State Farm refused to write our policy.

I paid around $40/month for renters insurance through State Farm. I also got a seperate policy for jewelry and they wanted appraisals and all that jazz.
