Anyone have their banister redone?
I have just a small banister leading upstairs (basically the first 4-5 steps) the rest of the steps are between two walls.. it is dark wood and I HATE IT!!!! Anyone have a new one installed? Just wondering if its a pricey job. And who do u call for an estimate on that? TIA!

Re: Anyone have their banister redone?
We had ours installed (there wasn't one before) by Golden Oak on Sunrise in Bellmore. We have a split level house. The railing goes along our landing, down the stairs and then along another landing. There is a gooseneck in there too. Ours cost about 1300. The landings were about 6.5 feet of railing and then about 7 steps or so.
We had a few companies give us quotes and they were the cheapest and we checked several of their references and they were all happy.

Re: Anyone have their banister redone?
My bil did ours so it only cost us a few hundred dollars. We only did this little area where there was nothing before. I think it all depends on how long it is going to be and what kind you want. I have friends who spent $3500 on an entire staircase (about 12 or 13 steps) but they also had some fancy carved post at the end. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Anyone have their banister redone?
We had ours done. It's a long flight and wraps around the landing upstairs. These are pics taken right after the job was done and before we moved in.
We negotiated the price to 3K cash.
Many of the estimates we received did not cover finishing the wood (oak). The posts are poplar. An all oak banister will run you more due to the cost of the wood. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Anyone have their banister redone?
I have an oak banister similar to Tah-win-zah's... We paid approximately $4500 for the banister and open format (the smaller poles are sitting on top of the stair tread).
My Sister in law hated her banisters also, and she had them painted a shiny black - and they look stunning!!!!!
This might be a much cheaper (yet still beautiful) route for you to take!
Good luck!
