Anyone have their cabinets refaced or repainted?
Who did you use? How did they come out?
Our cabinets are good cabinets and still in great shape, but the color/finish is just not my style anymore and looks dated.
I thought this would be a good, less expensive option to replacing them.

Anyone have their cabinets refaced or repainted?
My friend just had it done for a small kitchen and paid $1000. She also had more painting done so probably got some discount. Her cabinets are flat so not extra corners or layers to do. Can’t comment on upkeep as it was just done.

Re: Anyone have their cabinets refaced or repainted?
It really all depends on the existing cabinets. If they are currently painted its not a big job but typically that is not the case.
Typically the process for most cabinet painting is as follows
Remove all cabinets Sand down all cabinets and facing Mask off entire kitchen to protect from paint Spray Cabinets with 1 coat of Primer Spray 2 Coats of finish paint
Great finished product but there is a lot of labor involved.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I have the standard issue 1990's golden oak, cathedral door cabinets. I recently got a quote to paint, $3000. It's combined 30 cabinets and drawers. To me that seemed high because I could technically replace the cabinets for the amount of money.

Refaced ours almost six years ago. They still look great, no wear and tear. We used Home Depot and were very happy with their work and level of professionalism.

See I don't have nearly that many cabinets/drawers- I am jealous! I have to say though, I think replacing that many cabinets, would be a lot more than $3k, no?

Re: Anyone have their cabinets refaced or repainted?
We refinished our cabinets, they are from 1969 and you would NEVER know!! They came out beautiful.
We stripped them down to the wood, sanded, conditioned the wood, stained, and sealed. We used General Finishes stain which is an amazing product. The refinished cabinets are going on 4 years old now and they still look as perfect as the day we stained them.
Since we weren't changing the footprint of the kitchen we didn't want to spend thousands on new cabinets so this was a great option for us. It's a little time consuming but worth it in the end.

This makes the kitchen sound bigger than it is. When I say drawers, it is a draw bank of 4 drawers. The quote works out to about $100/drawer/cabinet front. So for a 3 inch high drawer front it is $100. That to me is excessive. I can get the cabinets for $3000, it's the installation that will bring the price up. Problem is, I want to do my kitchen and I want to make changes but I can't make up my mind and don't want to do something I will regret. Only thing I know that I want right now is to move the sink.

DH could totally do this himself as well- BUT- that kind of labor is a bit much for him. He can't stand painting. I mean he hates painting a wall, stripping and sanding cabinets would put him over the edge. I mean he built us an outdoor kitchen himself, but sanding and striping and painting are his nemesis. So in this case, we are willing to pay for the labor- where with everything else, (like renovating a bathroom), he will do it himself

I don't blame you, sometimes it's worth spending the money to avoid the hassle. I

me too. WE have cherry cabinets and want to paint them white. The thought of taking all the cabinets down, sanding and painting kills me.

Anyone have their cabinets refaced or repainted?
my parents just looked into doing this...they were quoted $1800 for one coat...and $800 if a second coat is needed. i'd say it's a medium sized kitchen.

Re: Anyone have their cabinets refaced or repainted?
We used Rust-oleum Cabinet Transformations (bought it at Home Depot) and did it ourselves. It's not difficult but definitely time consuming because there are several steps...and we have a lot of cabinets, too.
ETA: There is NO sanding with this product
