Anyone have this while pregnant? Heartbeat related
I went to the doctor this morning and we could hear the baby's heartbeat skip and then there was an extra beat.
The doctor said it is very common and usually corrects itself after birth. He is sending me for a fetal echocardiogram to be on the safe side, to check the baby's heart.
DH is freaking, I am pretty OK, thinking why worry until there's something to worry about?
Anyone experience this?

No but I know many people that were born with "holes" in their heart that closed up when they were infants.
I agree with you - don't worry unless they give you something to worry about.

Gina, I was told in the NICU that all babies in utero have a hole in their heart or in other words a murmur. It depends on how big it is and when it closes on its own. For most it closes shortly after birth...Jacks didnt close by itself so he was given a form of ibuprofen to close it. I know what he had was called a PDA. Stay relaxed ---it will be fine. You are getting so close!

Yes! The exact same thing happened to me when I was pregnant with my son! Everytime I went for my visit to the doctor and they listened for the heartbeat I noticed it and they didn't say anything to me so I thought it was normal. Finally, the week before I was due, another Dr. in the practice picked up on it and sent me for the fetal echocardiogram right away. There was not hole in his heart - it just had something to do with the electrical impulses that trigger the hearbeat or whatnot - I don't quite remember the exact medical terminology. Anyway, it straightened out right after he was born.
Good luck!

Re: Anyone have this while pregnant? Heartbeat related
Yes, Yes,Yes!! At about 28 weeks DS's heart rate was all off. They first called it PVC's (premature ventricle contractions) and then they changed it to PAC's (premature atrial contractions). I went in for fetal echos every week or two for monitoring. I ended up with a section b/c the dr. didnt want to put DS under any stress and I had no problem with that. I was told that usually once the baby took his first breath outside the womb, his heart rate would kick into gear----and it did. He is perfectly healthy. My cousin had the same thing with her little boy. Feel free to send FM for any questions.

Yes, and it corrected itself before I delivered. I think it was around my 28 week sono. I had 3 trips to L&D after that visit and all the HBs were normal at all of those visits.
