anyone have to pack up and store a 4 br home +full attic, full basement AND full garage...
We are most likely moving in March and I am starting to freak out about packing up our home (2 adults, 3 kids and ALL our stuff)
In order to save some $$ before we buy our next house we are moving in with my parents...so our whole home basically will be going into storage...
I keep telling everyone usually when people use storage it is bec they go somewhere temporary like an apt but still use a bed, pots, cups, towels, etc...but since we are staying at my parents we dont need a thing and therefore it all goes into storage..This weekend we have been purging a lot..and putting things on ebay and craigslist, goodwill, etc...but it will still be a lot...
I have been pricing units and they are 10x30ft and are about $700/month AND i am not so sure that will be big enough...yikes...that is like rent !!
anyone do this? did you fit it in the 10x30 unit?
where did you go? any recommendations? We live in mid Nassau now and my parents live in eastern Queens - So I am looking in both areas for available units!

Good luck w/ the move!
We didn't rent a space that big, but got a 10x10 (for our 1 bedroom apartment when we were in between moves), at Public Storage in Queens near Queens Blvd. They had first month free, and I think after that, it was about $250 or so for the 10x10, not sure how much bigger ones are worth, but might be worth it to check it out. Other possibility is going farther out of Queens/LI to more rural areas to find a cheaper one - not sure if it's an option but we looked into that also, but ended up with one in Queens because we've uesd it before and trusted it, and were only staying for 3 months.

I used Safeguard in West Hempstead. No problems at all.
I pay $162/mo for a 10x10. Maybe price out getting 2 units instead of one big one?

We did somewhat the same thing, except my parents have a two family house so we did need some of our things...however we still had to store A LOT because we moved from a three bedroom house with finished basement to a tiny two bedroom apartment with an itty bitty kitchen. It wasn't easy but it was worth it.
I'm not sure of the size of our storage unit (might have been 10 x 20) but it was filled to the brim. I'm not sure if 10 x 30 is going to be enough for you since it's the entire contents of your house.
Good luck!

When I was inbetween houses for a few months, we just did pods. I think we did two larger ones, but i had no kids at that point, I know that changes things a lot.

I moved from my one br co-op into my now DHs apartment, before we got married, so almost all of my stuff went into storage. We rented a 10 x 15 unit at Extra Space in Commack, for about $150/month. We looked at a couple of storage places and the prices were all over the place (Public Storage was about double what we paid). $700 seems like a ridiculous amount. I would look at some other storage places, to see if the prices are similar. If so, I think the idea of 2 smaller units sounds like a good plan.

it def does...as i look around the house...most of the stuff is theirs! lol
thanks ladies...i am going to try to ask nicely that my parents clear some room in the jammed packed attic and basement...and hopefully that with the storage unit will be enough to have room for it all...

Wow you're selling a great looking house!
My BIL rented while his new house was being built, they spent close to $500 a month on the storage unit but they were still saving even with their rent, so it was worth it since they didn't have a mortgage. Good luck.
