No idea. I am on the Babylon line in Nassau, too, and had no problems this AM. We were on time. Of course, my train leaves before 7am, though. There were no announcements when I got to Penn.

Re: anyone hear anything about service suspension on the LIRR?
Here is the alert
There is limited LIRR westbound service with delays of 30 to 40 minutes into Penn Station due to an accident investigation just west of the Jamaica Station. There is no local westbound service from Kew Gardens and Forest Hills

FH was on that train with the accident. He was in the last car and as they were switching tracks another train hit them. He is OK, but I got a text that says "I hate the LIRR"

DH still hasn't gotten to work yet. He was very close to Jamaica when it happened and they were just sitting there.
I said, well at least you're in a nice warm train and not standing on the Jamaica station platform or shoved into those cramped little waiting rooms.

I was on that train too in the first car.... such a pain but I'm glad no one got hurt.

Re: anyone hear anything about service suspension on the LIRR?
My office overlooks the tracks and so many people were stuck in those trains literally staring at the building they have to go into - that stunk but at least no one got hurt!

Re: anyone hear anything about service suspension on the LIRR?
I only got to work 7 minutes late. I thought it was going to be like 20-30 minutes, but it wasn't. My train actually moved quickly after we finally got through Jamaica!

Re: anyone hear anything about service suspension on the LIRR?
This is the latest:
There are westbound delays of up to 90 minutes and eastbound delays of up to 1 hour due to an ongoing investigation involving two earlier trains bumping into each other as they were departing Jamaica Station. New York City Transit is cross honoring LIRR ticket holders at Jamaica. Nov-19-2008 10:08:48AM

Re: anyone hear anything about service suspension on the LIRR?
We were stopped at Jamaica this morning right after it happened. Seemed to be okay but lots of FDNY and LIRR people on the track. We were held for 15 minutes with no message and finally the conductor announced that "due to railroad personnel work on an incident on the track there was no west bound service to Penn...we'll let you know when we can move" we were all like where are we going to move to? But eventually we were allowed to pass and I got to work about 12 minutes late...but I was on an early train so it wasn't really late.
Thankfully no one was hurt.

how does that happen? I know sometimes the trains are vicariously close to one another but they are in tracks.

I'll tell you how it happens.
7:08AM Service Advisory
There are scattered 5 to 10 minute delays in both directions on the Main Line between Mineola and Jamaica due to a signal problem in Queens. Nov-19-2008 07:05:01AM
7:54AM Service Advisory
Service has been suspended west of Jamaica due to an accident investigation. Nov-19-2008 07:51:28AM
I guess the "switching problems" were pretty bad. So bad it eventually caused an accident.

That actually doesn't look that bad. I took a much later train in (my train left Massapequa PK at 9:50AM).
But I did see the double decker train still at Jamacia all banged up.

No, they considered it minor, but walking thru the train to get back to the platform at Jamaica, this car was deifnitely off the track and on an angle... the other train definitely did some damage.

No, they were separate incidents. One train ran a stop signal.
My train was affected by both these incidents. I was an hour late to work.
