Anyone hear of Cocktail Playdates? Mommies drink one drink while going on playdates? EDited with LInk to story
Mommies What do you think? Do you think it's okay to have 1 drink while on a playdate in the middle of the day while your kids/babies play?
I am curious to hear people's opinions

Never heard of this before. I can't recall the last time I had a drink in the middle of the day, with lunch or not! I would never, but I'd be interested to see if anyone would.

If it is at someone's house, I dont see why 1 drink cant hurt, but only 1 drink. I would NEVER take the chance with my 2 boys

Re: Anyone hear of Cocktail Playdates? Mommies drink one drink while going on playdates?
I think as long as it's only 1 and the play date is an extended amount of time it's fine. I've been out to dinner at a friends and have had some wine.
just saw you said middle of the day, I'm not a middle of the day drinker but I don't see anything wrong with it.

I'd be up for it, but would definitely limit it to one drink. A nice cool margariata at 2pm would do wonders for my afternoon patience level.

Re: Anyone hear of Cocktail Playdates? Mommies drink one drink while going on playdates?
I dont agree with it. The reason being is that I know for me personally with being tired and not drinking that much anymore that my tolerance is way down...one drink and I am buzzed.....
They all said that it relaxed them so IMO I would not want to be in a "relaxed" state while I am supposed to be taking care of my baby / toddler.
I say leave the boozin until the babies are in bed and not in any danger.

Hey I did this everyday in the summer! We sat on the green outside of the pub and had a drink! We never got drunk, but we felt like normal people sitting outside of the Horse and Jockey on the Green!!
Great Idea....providing you have self control (I do, thankfully!)

I really like the idea. Not necessary because I will get to have a glass of wine but the atmosphere of the GTG. If you watched the newsclip of the Baby Bytes in NYC it looked like a lot of fun. I also agree that hosting it around 2 or 3 is the perfect time during the day. It gets mom and baby out of the house and into a quasi adult world with real food and people. I would love to go to one.

For me, I dont agree with it, b/c I would be passed out after one drink!
Honestly, one drink for some woman is NOTHING and then I dont think its a big deal....

Re: Anyone hear of Cocktail Playdates? Mommies drink one drink while going on playdates? EDited with LInk to story
I can see why it would be appealing.
But for me, between being pg, and bf'ing since august 2005, with a 1 month break in between, my tolerance i wayyy low. I had one glass of wine at my DH's work function and i was buzzing pretty good.
There's no way i could drink even just one, and still feel responsible enough to watch my kids and drive them home even if there was hours in between.

Some of you made the point that you wouldn't feel comfortable having a drink and you don't have to. I just love the thought of being able to go to lunch with dd in a restaurant where no one is going to scull at me because my baby cries and somone will serve me real food and take my dirty plate away to someplace where I don't have to clean it!

Re: Anyone hear of Cocktail Playdates? Mommies drink one drink while going on playdates? EDited with LInk to story
I have. Most of the kids are infants in carriages, so we sit around at a local lounge and have a couple of drinks. No-one gets drunk and it is a good way to relax and socialize. It is done late in the afternoon, so if mom gets a little light-headed, the daddies can take over when they get home from work.
I don't see anything wrong with it.

Sign me up!!!!
But seriously, I have had 1 mimosa at a "playdate". All was fine. I don't think I'd toss back a shot of scotch, but 1 light drink, I think it's OK.

Re: Anyone hear of Cocktail Playdates? Mommies drink one drink while going on playdates? EDited with LInk to story
I'd be ok with it.
I think the words Cocktail and playdate in the same sentence are what make people cringe.
I've been at a family members during the day (or night what does it matter) and been offered "a" glass of wine and accepted it.
As long as you're not getting pie faced or driving within a certain timeframe - I see nothing wrong with it.

if you know you cannot handle a drink then def don't do it. i'm pregnant with my first so i've haven't yet had a cocktail playdate before. and i'm not against the idea of it.

I agree. What gave me pause while reading the post was the focus on cocktails.
By no means do I consider myself a drinker but I have had a glass of wine at a party where my kids were in attendance. If it was phrased as friends getting together I think it would be taken differently.
As long as everyone is safe, I see nothing wrong with it.

Funny I was thinking the same thing. The idea of this in the middle of the winter seemed strange, but then I was thinking this summer I'm sure I'd love to sit outside for a few hours and have a nice cool drink like a margarita in the backyard and enjoy the weather.

I have done this in the summer with my neighbor. Sit outside on the deck while the kids play.

Re: Anyone hear of Cocktail Playdates? Mommies drink one drink while going on playdates? EDited with LInk to story
I think its absurd. I dont want to put myself in a position where I feel responsible for other childrens mommies God Forbid they over do it. For myself, I dont see the need on a few hr playdate. What would be the purpose? If ya cant hold out a few hrs until you are with your friends or dh then there is a problem. I just cant imagine going to gymboree with a beer in my hand. Seems pretty tacky.
