ANYONE HELP, I think Roman has chicken pox edited 02/09
and being pregnant I'm freaking!
02/09 I am so glad I took him in today. It turns out he had a reaction to the measles part of the immunization and not the chicken pox. Dr. Cavanagh said since they are flat for the most part they are not chicken pox. My poor baby, he looks HORRIBLE, he is covered everywhere with pimple looking bumps. The good news is it doesn't seem to bother him one bit, and I can't believe it is not contagious one bit.

Have you had it?
yes, but can I still get it and is the baby okay? I thought it can have severe damage early on in your pregnancy?

Call your ob/gyn's emergency line. It could be nothing - but better safe than sorry. Off to look up info & become a chicken pox expert. BRB

Re: ANYONE HELP, I think Roman has chicken pox
Sounds like you'll be ok.
Is it risky to be exposed to chicken pox during pregnancy? It depends. If you've had chicken pox before, you're probably immune, so there's no need to worry. Up to 95 percent of adults in the United States are immune, including many people who had chicken pox and never even knew it. If you got the chicken pox vaccine (available in the United States since 1995), you're probably immune — it works for more than 80 percent of those who get it.
If you're not sure whether you're immune, a simple blood test can give you the answer. If you're not immune and you do happen to catch chicken pox while you're pregnant, there's a chance that it will affect your baby and that you could get quite sick.

Re: ANYONE HELP, I think Roman has chicken pox
Dr. Cavanagh just called back and I told him we're having a baby (me & DH not me & Dr. Cavanagh) Anywho... he said I should be fine since I've already had it and it's not likely to spread to me because it's probably a mild case since he had the vaccine 10 days ago. I'm still bringing him in tomorrow though. And of course I'm still going to call my ob/gyn.

If you've had it- you'll be fine!
RJ got the chicken pox- 2 weeks before he was supposed to get the vaccine.... We didnt even know if it was chicken pox- or a viral infection (he really didnt have a bad case) until a blood test confirmed!
He was up all night- for 3 days straight! I hope thats not the case for you guys!

Re: ANYONE HELP, I think Roman has chicken pox
wait if he just had the vaccine 10 days ago, its most likely just a reaction to the shot. my doctor told me that some kids will break out in a few pox approx. 10 days after the vaccine. i know my dd, broke out in about 5 of them after the shot. but some kids break out in alot more. just dont touch the actually poxs themselves and you will be fine.

It's true, when Christopher got his vaccine, the doctor said he may get up to a few box sometime within the next few weeks. Sure enough, he got a couple of pox about two weeks afterwards. Looks like you'll both be fine!

Re: ANYONE HELP, I think Roman has chicken pox
Sorry to piggy back onto this post, but I have a question.
I delayed DD for this vaccine until her 2nd birthday...which is coming up in less than two weeks. She will be getting it on 2/19.
Anyway my question is--if she does break out with a few pox then would I have to keep her out of daycare? And for how long?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Denise

if she breaks out from the vaccine, i believe she is NOT contagious, unless someone touches the actual poxs themselves, that is what my dd's pediatrican told me. i was pregnant at the time with #2 also. im pretty sure daycare would want you to keep her home.

Yes-
I was told you are still contagious until each and every pox is scabbed over! The vaccine is a LIVE vaccine- therefore when you break out you would still be contagious!
A daycare center will not allow her in the building with pox on her- unless you have written consent from her dr. saying she isnt contagious!
