Re: Anyone here a Secret Shopper?
I got some information about this but never really pursue it because I never knew if it was worth it or not. I'm wondering now, like you, if someone on here has tried it.

When I worked at Victoria's, I was told that the shoppers can only buy a very inexpensive item and then it's up to them to return it or pay for it

I did a few of them...however, my assignments were for storage places..so nothing free over here.

Re: Anyone here a Secret Shopper?
I do jobs about once a week at different resturants, bars and stores.
I'm not at liberty to reveal what stores especially on this board since I know of a few members who are associated with these businesses.
It involves me going out with another person who is an adult (Jack doesn't count) I get about 40 something bucks to cover my food & bar bill for evenings a bit less for lunches and then a small amount for my time/gas.
In most cases nothing is more then 10 miles from my home and I just will invite a friend out to lunch, dinner, happy hour or for a few hours of shopping.
It's a great job for a SAHM especially to feel like I'm slightly using my B.A. from JJAY and former NY PI Liscense down here in Florida.
I've also started working for a few banks and insurance companies calling in questions on loans, mortgages, homeowners.. etc..

Re: Anyone here a Secret Shopper?
I did it a few times - you don't really make anything and you have to keep track of your payments b/c you have to report it - b/c you are an independant contractor.
Depending on what you do it could be fun or not. I did a lot of restaurants, bookstores, bridal stores, pool places, and bed and bath type places.
What you get depends on your level, and whether they like your reports.
You get some free stuff - like go to a specific store and buy something and they reimburse you for an item say up to $8 or up to $10 then they also pay you $5-20 dollars for the shop. You have to get names, etc, and you can't write anything down in the store.
You will not get rich on it - or really have much pocket money - but the free stuff is always a plus - especially the free food.
Just one thing - there is no reason to pay to get access to the lists - there are tons of good sites that are listed for free. So if someplace wants you to pay - think twice.
You have to pay for everything, meals, buying things etc upfront. Then you get a check that will cover your reimbursement and/or pay after the shop. Many places take 30 days or more to reimburse you.
The reports are not bad if you don't mind writing - they want reports that are well written etc. Some are only a page others are 5-10 pages long. Depending on how detailed they asked the shop to be.

Re: Anyone here a Secret Shopper?
I did it a few times last summer.
The biggest pain - the place I use wants everything faxed. Unless you have a fax machine at home (or know someone who does) you have to run out somewhere and do it. That eats into your money big-time, especially if you report is more than just a few pages. They also want their report within 24 hours of doing the store, so the entire day is shot afterwards.
It just wasn't worth it to me!

Re: Anyone here a Secret Shopper?
I once signed up w/ a company not knowing the list of places given to me was nothing but fast food and cell phone stores. They email you with stores available but was always the same thing. I did the fast food twice, you're supposed to go alone, order according to the instructions given, they reimburse you. The paperwork wasn't bad but you do have to send/fax it within 24 hrs along with receipts. Just wasn't for me. There are a ton of places to sign up with and I'm sure some offer much better opportunities than others....I think volition.com is one place to find out.
