Anyone here ever been to a concert at Central Park's Great Lawn?
I'm sure there's gotta be a bunch of you that saw Dave Matthews.
Just curious what the experience was like. What time did you get there?
I'm just trying to figure out what time we should get there on Saturday for Bon Jovi. They say it's not 'open' until 2pm.
Bon Jovi concert goers- what are your plans?

Tara - I've been to a few concerts on the lawn. Mostly for the MET though and the 9/11 Anniversary Vigil. Make sure you put on bug spray! I'd get there when they said the "doors" would open but if you want a great spot line up early. When is this?

I went to the Dave Matthews concert on the great lawn...we got there at 2pm....didn't get in the gates until 8!!!!!!!!
They got to the point where people were just cutting the line, or coming in from the other entrances to the park. They were also taking away any blankets that people had, there was a HUGE pile of them.

OMG serious? So I guess there's no point in getting there way earlier than 2pm huh.
And no blankets? That is NUTS! What if the grass is all wet and nasty? ugggh....

I would probably try getting in from a different entrance in the park than the one they set up...if that's possible. I think there were just so many people that they coudln't possibly handle it. The grass was all wet and soggy when we went, but we were so far away that we had to stand anyway...only made it for 3 of the last songs.
Hopefully they will be better prepared for Bon Jovi. If you are going to bring a blanket, bring one you don't mind losing....just in case they do the same thing.

Re: Anyone here ever been to a concert at Central Park's Great Lawn?
I'm seriously rethinking going to this concert Saturday. I probably won't know what I'm doing until Saturday. We have tickets to see them next Tuesday anyway at MSG. As much as I LOVE Bon Jovi, I'm not sure I can deal with the mayhem I'm sure it will be.
ETA: These are the prohibited items posted on the MLB website for the concert.
Prohibited items: Alcohol Cameras/recording devices Chairs Glass/metal containers Radios Coolers Large bags or backpacks Strollers Weapons Umbrellas Other items prohibited by the city and concert promoter

Oy, part of me feels the way you do- and I'm going to BOTH MSG shows! I am out of my mind! I would have been fine with just one MSG show but DH wants to go to both.
I feel bad DH can't go to CP, but he's okay with it because of all the mayhem and the long day that goes with it!
Thanks for posting that list!

I saw Dave Matthews. We were able to sneak a sheet in that I had laying across my arm along under my sweat jacket.
I am glad I went - it was totally worth it. But it was seriously insane. It took a loonnnggg time to get out of the park thats for sure. Luckily I did not wait too long before because I could not come until after work.
I remember the piles of blankets

I have tickets too!! DH doesn't want to go and i'm trying to find someone to go with me. I think it would be a great time, but that does sound like a pain in the butt! What do you sit on? Or are you supposed to stand the whole time??

Re: Anyone here ever been to a concert at Central Park's Great Lawn?
I saw Dave there and it was awesome! We were on line for 3 hours, the concert had alreasy started so they just started letting people in at that point. I would get there early. Find a site that has the rules listed as they were vert strict about cetain things, like bottles and blankets and whatnot. It was fun anf the PP is right about bugspray. The people were all over the place, it was hard to walk across the lawn! We picked a spot kinda near the vendors where we could see the stage and one of the big screens. There was like no one there and it was a great place to just chill and see the show.
Have fun!!!!
