Re: anyone here in med school?
I'm not, but I work in a college so I have worked with students who have returned to college, and my cousin who graduated college with me is a pediatrician.
Do you have all of the prereqs for med school or do you have to return to take undergrad classes?
I think the actual med school part may be impossible to do while taking time off for pregnancy (you could take a year off, but it's the type of thing where that would be very difficult to do, and most only admit once a year so you couldn't withdraw for one semester, then return), but I do have friends who took a year off from the residency portion post-graduation to give birth and stay home a few months (that would mean hold off on having kids for the coursework portion of med school, sitting for the boards, and then maybe another year of residency). The residency is an incredibly difficult time though...My cousin was doing 18-30 hour shifts. While not impossible with kids it would be very hard to do.
Another thing to think about is whether you can move to go to whatever med school or residency program you get into. Can you move if you don't get into med school on Long Island or in the city?
Honestly if you are thinking of having kids I'd probably say look into options like nursing, PA programs, etc. that require less schooling and where the lifestyle may be a better fit with having kids. It's never to late to do anything, and the easy answer would be go for it, but unless you are willing to wait 5 years to have kids it may not be a wise choice.
