Anyone here live in Bayside and work in Manhattan?
We are thinking of moving to Bayside but I am very concerned about the commute. Is it really bad? Do you love living there or are you just OK with it?
We saw some listing that state that they apt/house is a 5 minutes walk from LIRR. Are the areas so close to LIRR OK?
Any info would be appreciated!

I took the express bus since I was in bay terrace - took about 45 minutes
the train ride is like 20 minutes

Re: Anyone here live in Bayside and work in Manhattan?
I do. The commute is a piece of cake - I have a 7 minute walk to the LIRR. The train takes about 25 minutes to get to Penn in the mornings and there's a few express trains back to Bayside that takes 20 minutes.
It's a GREAT area!! I have never not felt safe - at all hours of the day & night.
The LIRR station is on Bell Blvd, 3 blocks north of Northern Blvd. This where a lot of restaurants and stores are located.

I live in bayside probably in the middle of the bayside and auburndale train station. Both are a little far to walk to but I always find parking by auburndale so I'll take my car there. It is a great area.

That's a great commute. You can catch the 8:04 from Great Neck and you are in Penn at about 8:30 ish...that's a good line to be on for commuting.

Re: Anyone here live in Bayside and work in Manhattan?
I grew up there...a block from the station and went to school and worked in Manhattan. I miss it alot. There are many places near the LIRR (which is the easiest line btw...no transfers).
Like I said, I lived one block from the station and the area is very nice. A little more transient than most neighborhoods, but I always felt safe.
It's a 20 min ride to penn. The worst part of my commute was always getting from penn to wherever I had to be in the city.
I miss Bayside, my mom still lives there and there are very nice areas not too far from the LIRR...even just out of Bayside - By Auburndale are okay.
Not sure where you liive now, but compared to LI I was spoiled with the commute from Bayside.

That's the thing, I now live in Rego Park and the subway is less than 2 blocks away from my building. It takes me about 30-45 minutes to get to midtown, less so during off peak hours.
I am a SAHM right now, having lost my job in March, but the time will come when I have to go back to work and I want to make sure I don't have an hour+ commute.

I grew up there and commuted from there for a few years.
BEST. COMMUTE. EVER.
The area around the LIRR is fine, it's just a little congested.
Let me know if you have any questions.
ETA - I also commuted from Ridgewood for a year and a half and that totally s ucked. You will love the Bayside commute.

Re: Anyone here live in Bayside and work in Manhattan?
The first year DH and I lived together we lived on 218th north of Northern Blvd. We both worked in the city and we would take the LIRR.
It is a good commute, I do think it is kind of $$$$ but the LIRR is.
Right before we moved, DH and I started to drive to Flushing and take the 7 train (he worked in Jersey City and I worked in Midtown, so this helped with the subways) and it was WAY cheaper (only $4 to park for $12 and a metrocard) but it wasn't as convienient.
But it definately is a do-able commute!!

I lived in Whitestone , great area, great commute, 22 minutes from Auburndale on the LIRR. There are also tons of express buses in the area.
