Re: Anyone here overcome a REALLY BAD FEAR of flying?
dh is a very nervous flyer. He can't even talk about our vacations or get excited about it until we're there, because all he thinks about is the flight. We went away a few weeks ago and he took a Xanax and that really helped. I wouldn't recommend taking it before a short flight, no less than four hours.

Re: Anyone here overcome a REALLY BAD FEAR of flying?
i have. i used to physically get sick before hand and on the plane because i was so terrified. i am fine for the most part now but that's because i have traveled at least twice a year on a plane (last year we went to florida 5 times alone!) so i guess i had no choice but to get used to it. i never did anything to prevent my panics from happening. they just stopped

I hate to fly but still do it. I just try to think of my destination and I get through it. And the facts do not lie. It is safer to fly then it is to drive statistically speaking.

Re: Anyone here overcome a REALLY BAD FEAR of flying?
I am just so scared to fly! I am so ashamed because all people fly, of all ages! And they go on the plane and deal with it.
I feel like this fear is a disability. Other people can fly and see the world but I can't! Sometimes I will gear myself up and seriously think about booking a trip- but as the time approaches I start to freak out. When I got my wisdom teeth out I went to sleep and woke up when it was over. I would LOVE to do the same for a plane flight
I just don't think this fear is conquerable.

I flew to Florida in Oct with DH and DS and I was a mess. I tried to hide it from my son but it was just too much for me to handle. I ended up getting sick in the bathroom. Both there and back we happen to get stuck in storms and it was an awful flight!!!! I was PG so I cound't even take anything.

I feel the same exact way...and sorry to say but it has gotten worse since I had kids. Only because of course I have to take care of them on the plane and not freak out and can't take anything. When I am flying alone, however, I have taken dramamine and it knocked me out from take off to landing...it was so nice.
Like others have said it just gets better the more you fly. Also thinking of the destination, statistics (how many thousands fly every day, etc.) Definitely trying to get an rx for xanax or something would help.
Good luck

Re: Anyone here overcome a REALLY BAD FEAR of flying?
my mom does and my dad worked for american airlines when I was a kid. She would fly clutching onto the seat the whole time.
she didn't fly for about 25 years and just started recently again. we got her xanex but it was too strong for her...so she does benedryl now.
her latest thing is taking trains now though.

I hate it but I do it. I take Xanyx but the last time it didn't even help. If I didn't have to take care of kids on the plane I would probably drink until I pass out so I could wake up and it could be over lol.

Re: Anyone here overcome a REALLY BAD FEAR of flying?
I used to hate flying but now seem to do it so much I am getting over it. I still bring Xanax with me incase.
Also my sister was a TERRIBLE NERVOUS flyer. She used to like hyperventilate and breath in a bag but she is now over it. She used to take meds too and slowly has gotten over it.
