Anyone hire a magician for their kids party?

Any suggestions what to look for, scheduling of the party ...have entertainer come after food?

Also, do you trow a birthday party every year for your child with friends? If so, when does it stop, like 8 or 9 years old?

I did not hire a magician but instead a character...I suggest you see pictures or find reviews beforehand because the character we got was horrible and when she was out of costume as a clown she did a horrendous job at face painting! LOL. We all laughed about it but OMG!

We had entertainment come after food but I don't really know what is best.

I am curious too about this bday party thing and if you must do every year? My son is turning 3 in January and we have done parties for 1st and 2nd...we tossed around the idea of just going away for the weekend for his bday to Great Wolf or something cool for him and jump back in to parties later on....but now that he's going to pre-school/daycare and has more "friends" I am re-visiting doing a party? Curious!?
