Anyone in Smithtown/Nesconset just see or hear that?

There were a sequence of like 10 REALLY loud booms, from what looked like south of 347 over by Lake ave (as far as I could tell through the trees) and then part of the sky lit up like it was fourth of july. Anyone else see or hear that?

where did it look like it came from, from where you are? I was thinking around 347 and lake.

ETA: I actually considered calling the police but Im not sure what it was.

Not sure, but we're over by 347 & we heard it pretty loud too. Maybe like Main Street & Terry? Could've been a bit farther like you said over by Lake Ave. So weird. I haven't heard anything else since then, not even police cars, so I guess that's a good sign.

I just called the SCPD non emergency line to at least notify them in case there is an emergency somewhere. Im so curious as to what that was. That was crazy.

I'm in Saint James and we heard it too... It didn't sound like fireworks to us...

Definitely not...Im south of 347, west of lake, but thats where it looked like it came from. Aside from hearing it, I was outside and the sky lit up like daytime, but not that high bc I saw it through the trees.

Im thinking maybe a transformer blew, but wouldnt that only be one explosion and not like 10?

heard it in hauppauge... it was followed by some colorful fireworks, so we didn't worry.

upon inspecting the ducks website there was a grucci fireworks show there tonight, but they have those all year, and Ive never heard or seen them. This looked like it came from over by 347 east of Lake.

vin was freaked by this and when i got home from work he told me about it. he said it was RIGHT behind our home - in a condo complex. the closest street behind us is middle country rd where the car dealers are. who knows!

I was leaving Smithaven Mall around the time you guys posted this and there was a ton of police cars and fire trucks (cheif trucks) in the parking lot across from the entrance by the food court on the Bobby's Burger Palace side but it didn't look like anything was going on. Then we exited the mall and made a left on middle country rd (heading east bound) and the first street that runs north and south next to the mall (by Macys) was blocked off with police officers and flares. Accident on that road maybe?

We heard this last night too. I wonder what it was. My initial thought was a line of transformers blowing.

My SIL lives in Hauppauge and she said she heard this too around 9:30 but chalked it up to fireworks.

I checked Newsday and nothing has been posted about it.
