Anyone just watch TLC baby story?
the 2pm one today.. was a lady who delivered in a birthing pool at NUMC...
i found it interesting when they brought her in she was in Triage at first and due to the small space the only allowed her midwife and doula...when they brought her to the birthing pool the husband then was able to join....
dh & I found it weird the doula got to be with the lady over the actual husband....

That is what the doula is there for though. What would be the point of having a doula for your birth if they had to wait outside.

I thought it was pretty rude that the mother was allowed in there, as per the birth plan- and then the doulla didn't allow the mother in at first.
I would have been REALLY pi$$ed if that were me!

me personally im not getting a doula since dh is there... but if i had both i wouldnt want my dh to miss out in any part of the hospital birth, i was just surprises he had to wait outside when its his own kid being born

I had my tour at NUMC recently. I think I am rembering that is was hospital policy. If there are more than one women in the triage are.. no men allowed. I am pretty sure. Correct me if I'm wrong. When you go to your labor room.. then they can come in.
To do a water birth (or even to use the waterbirth room for a regular labor-otherwise you have to have continous fetal monitoring) there you have to have a 20 minute tracing on the monitor, in the triage area, that shows that everything is good. Then you can go to the waterbirth/midwife room.

I went on a tour at NUMC on Sunday. Every woman that comes in to give birth needs to spend 20-30 minutes in the triage room to be evaluated (whether in active labor, how far dialated, etc.). It is a small room with 3 beds so there is isn't much room. It is also not very private, so I think they don't allow men in (other than doctors)b/c of privacy and space.

yeah i was a little put off by how the family was treated...i would have been like get my !@#$@^$@ husband in her NOW! teehee
