Re: Anyone know anything about Bellmore???
I grew up there. The north and south are very different (north of sunrise highway). What questions do you have? South Bellmore school dist is very good, not sure about north (I think its OK). I personally like the north better, though the south is the more desirable (and $$$) part.

Re: Anyone know anything about Bellmore???
We looked south of Merrick road. I really liked it there along with South Merrick and concentrated our search there. We wound up somewhere else, but the area is great, SD is great, LIRR ride to NYC is pretty short.
The further south you go, the more expensive the homes and the taxes get. Good Luck!!

I guess what areas should we target. We want something decent but not really too expensive.

It really depends were- there is a house for sale across the street from me that has been on the market for almost 2 years and I am sure it needs a lot of work- so i guess that is good to negotiate price wise. I will ask around if you want- you can also look in Newsday. I have heard in the 400's and up.

I would personally stay away from the area around Pea Pond. I never liked the area and it always looked run down. that's just my opinion..
besides that, many great areas. We lived in N. Bellmore, off Newbridge Rd just south of N. Jerusalem Ave. It's on the border of N. Bellmore and East Meadow. That's another good town.
I've lived on Jacqueline Ave and Lafayette St. I liked both areas. Map it and you'll see the streets.

You should look in Merrick also. Very similar to Bellmore. I live in the northern part of Merrick and LOVE it.

Re: Anyone know anything about Bellmore???
sometimes i sit outside starbucks and people watch, i watch all the 30 adn 40 something women, who are stick thin and dressed in dolce and gabanna and marc jacobs go in and out, in their brand new mercedes and bmw's
South merrick and south bellmore are very wealthy areas.
My FMIL said when she was raising her kids she was the only white person in the park because all the kids were with nannies, and not that hte mothers worked, they were just to busy galavanting and getting their hair done.
That was in 1983 around. She said things have gotten so much worse since then
Drive through on any given day, and you will see all the nannies pushing the kids.

My inlaws live near Pea Pond and I happen to think it's a nice area. Personally, I don't think there are any "bad" areas in Bellmore.

Re: Anyone know anything about Bellmore???
I grew up in Bellmore and we bought a house there also. I love it there. The schools are great and the area is great. The houses can really range in price. you can still definetly get something affordable. I grew up by Newbridge Road School. I went to Newbridge/Jerusalem and Mepham. My daughter will go to Martin/ Grand and Mepham. I have 2 sisters that also bought in Bellmore. You find a lot of people living there that grew up there.

I agree...my parents live in an area further down the road from Pea Pond, back by the split level areas. Their house/neighborhood is gorgeous. That area is Wantagh/N.Bellmore border.
I looked at houses in N. Bellmore when we were house hunting. You can get a fixer-upper for a good price. Just pay attention to the school district that you might be in...if you guys plan on having kids.

Not to start anything but I grew up in South Merrick in the 80's and my mom worked! yes, there were plenty that did nothing but shop and get their nails done but trust me, most of my friends parents worked too!
It was a great place to grow up. Bellmore is a great town too. I think South Bellmore is more desireable - alot of homes are on the water, the schools are great. But my best friend grew up in North Bellmore and he liked it. He lived off Jerusalem (on the border of East Meadow) too and it was very nice. I think it's a good town to look in. And North Merrick is another nice town - not as pricey as south merrick (although lately I hear the prices have risen alot) but I would look there too. Good luck and I can try to answer any questions about Bellmore. My parents still live in Merrick and they keep me up to date on what goes on there.
