Anyone know anything about MUMS
I want to add a little color to the front of the house. Is it too late to buy MUMS? How do you care for them? Do they bloom every year?
I tried doing a search but I couldn't really find answers to my questions.
Thanks

Re: Anyone know anything about MUMS
I still see potted Mums at the nurserys now - so you can still buy them --
as far as blooming every year - I don't know, I know my mom loves them and just buys the planted ones new every year.

Re: Anyone know anything about MUMS
Definately not too late. DH and I bought a TON of them last weekend, I still have to plant. Someone told me that they will grow back if you cut them back after they are out of season (I have no green thumb, so I don't know what that means!) But only if you plant them in the ground and not leave them in the pots

Re: Anyone know anything about MUMS
They don't bloom every year; in a few weeks, we'll pull them out. We planted a few in the front in different colors, put a Happy Harvest stake in the ground, and casually arranged some pumpkins around the flowers. Just plant them and water them....they do great!
Home Depot and Loews have good ones!

Re: Anyone know anything about MUMS
You can still get them and put them out or plant them, its not too late.
As for planting and coming back, they are Perennials so my aunt with the green thumb will tell you that they do come back beautifully. But you will just see greens in the spring, so you cut them back so they will come back better and flower in the fall. Also they tend to take up alot of room, so some people will move them in the Spring to a different spot then re-plant them in the fall after spring/summer flowers are done to fill in the holes.
I on the other hand have a black thumb and cannot get planted mums to come back. So this year I just kept them in their pots.
sorry if this is too much info
heres some more info if you are still reading....

Re: Anyone know anything about MUMS
They are still available, most have full blooms now instead of buds so you will get instant color.

Re: Anyone know anything about MUMS
Yup, they do come back. All the mums I planted last year have come back beautifully. I bought some more this year too, just haven't planted them yet. And I did NOTHING to care for them, no trimming or anything. Just planted them and let the sprinklers do their job. That's it.
