Anyone know where i can find "canned" fruit that's not with syrup!!
DS Loves fruit that they give him for snack at daycare..at 10months I really don't want teh ones that are sitting it syrup..(pears peaches..etc). Where and what brand can you reccomend?
ETA: Im not the one calling it syrup..that's how it's labeled

They carry the kind in light juice - I am pretty sure Stop and Shop brand and Dole both make them!

I've seen some dole that's packed in water. There is some in the fridge section of the supermarket too - maybe the ethnic section (goya?) that's a guess though.

In a pinch, I'll drain those and rinse them in a strainer. Otherwise, I always do fresh. I'll cut up strawberries, melon, canteloupe, pealed peaches and put them in the Gerber to go bowl/lid and send them in.

We do fresh fruit with Travis. He is gonna be pretty sad soon when I can;t get watermelon soon.

It's not syrup dopey, it's juice - like the fruit juice mixed with water, less calories, no syrup or added sugar at all!

I buy the Doles ones and don't give them to him often but I like the Manderian Oranges bc they are easy to chew swallow. They are in a juice but I def would not consider it a syrup

Actually, the ones in water are washed out.
The ones in "natural fruit juice" taste better.
You have to read the labels for "light" - some have that nutrasweet junk.

I recently bought Dole pineapples in juice..comes in the 4 pack
I think I've seen the mandarin oranges also in juice...but I cant be positive....I know I saw the sugar free but that has added sweeteners and I wouldnt give that to a child so young.

I give my DS the fruit that's packed in it's own juice, but I make sure it doesn't have high fructose corn syrup in it...but it's all natural..I don't see anything wrong with it.

What about using frozen fruit and defrosting it? I use frozen peaches all the time, they are super tasty. You can even bake them in the oven until soft and warm.

Happy to help! I always had issues w/ canned fruit for the same reasons. Either loaded in syrup, or fake sugar. The options for in their own juice, or in juice are so slim. Good luck!

Stop and shop sells canned peaches, pears and mandarin oranges packed in pear juice not syrup. I also find canned pineapple packed in pineapple juice from dole. Stop and shop is the only brand I found like this. The other brands that say "no sugar added" all have artificial sweeteners. It's really annoying, I don't understand why they would need to add sugar to fruit.

yeah i just got a snack pack of peaches over at target last night- it says how its in water, no sugar added- then I see the ingredients and its got the artificial sweetner
