Anyone leasing solar?
Was stopped by a consultant in home depot. They talked us into an initial consultation. What the sales man explained sounded too good to be true (nothing out of pocket, savings each month, no maintenance, etc.) I feel like there must be a catch....what are the potential drawbacks of leasing???

Re: Anyone leasing solar?
DH works in construction and is skeptical about adding this to our roof.
We recently had a new one installed and he wonders how all that weight would effect it, especially if we get another hurricane Sandy.
Also it's fairly new technology and we also both have the cablevision/optimum mentaility about price jumping.
Several of my neighbors have but we aren't convinced yet it's the way to go.

Leasing isn't beneficial to you. You can buy the system chesper. I have contact info for the guy we used if you'd like.

Re: Anyone leasing solar?
The weight is nominal, less than a 2nd layer of shingles (and some people even put 3 layers of shingles on even though they aren't supposed to), it will easily survive a hurricane (mine did without any issues), and it actually protects the roof from UV rays, extending the life of the roof.
I bought mine 8 years ago, so I have no input on leasing. When I bought mine, there were no leasing options at all, so it was never an issue, and never anything I even researched.

Not sure about buying is our best bet because we will likely move in the next five years. If this was our forever home we would've definitely bought.

We had a consult with the people at HD also. Didn't seem like a great deal to us and we decided not to do it. One of the biggest factors for me was that you have to sign a 20 year lease and we will not be in our home for anywhere near that long (probably another 10 years at most). So, then when you go to sell, you have to have a buyer who is willing to take over the lease - not something I wanted to have to worry about at all.

This is where my head is at.
