Anyone live in a 1 bedroom apt.? Necessities related
DH and I are in a 1 bedroom apt. and we plan to be there for at least another 3-4 years, i know space will be tight, but I'm fine with that.
My question is what are the bare necessities for a newborn? I mean really basic things...I won't be buying a changing table or a dresser or things like that.
Any help is appreciated!

Re: Anyone live in a 1 bedroom apt.?
We live in a 2 family house that we own with my mom. My floor has one bedroom. We plan on turning the attached garage into our bedroom and giving the baby the existing room which is bigger. We were going to do that now, with this year's taxes, but have decided to pay off all debt before the baby instead. So for about 6 months to a year we will be living with 1 bedroom.
We plan on putting our dressers in the garage and just having our mattress in the nursery. As far as the necessities we plan on purchasing for the nursey, with the limited space are: crib, dresser and corner bookcase. It is going to be tight, but the idea of not having it decorated as a real nursery really bothers me

Furniture Wise- I think the only necessity is a crib.
I live in a 1 bedroom, and that is all we will essentially be buying. It's all we have room for, really.
Other basics you must have: car seat, stroller, and i feel a pack and play is important.

awww, i'm really sorry you feel that way. if it makes any difference, the baby won't know whether he/she is in a nursery or not. all that matters is that they are comfortable and loved. everything else is material. i look at people's nurseries and wish i had the space also, but since i dont have the power to change that, i just have to make my peace with it

We lived in a one bedroom when DD was born. We bought a crib and a glider. I put shelves in our closet to hold her clothes. And then also used baskets in existing furniture to store other baby stuff.

I know you're right. I think it's exactly like the whole wedding thing. You go on LIW and see what everyone else is doing for their weddings and get caught up in what you "have" to have. Looking at all the nurseries on here, like you, make me want to do just that. But you said it best, that's all material. What's important is that they are comfortable and loved I just want to give him the best.

Re: Anyone live in a 1 bedroom apt.? Necessities related
I had to live with my parents when the babies first came home from the hospital. I was sooo sad about it....that I didn't have my own home. But once they were there I realized two things 1. newborns do not need much and 2. It doesn't matter that you don't have a nursery etc. all that matters is that they are healthy and well loved.
They don't care what their room looks like or if they even have a room for that matter. The decorating and "cute stuff" will mean more to them when they are older.
and to answer you question they really only NEED clothes diapers bottles bibs burp cloths and somewhere to sleep.
If you are planing to stay in the 1 bedroom apartment for a while they I would say get a crib and make a little area for it. If it is temporary you totally can just use the pack n play and if you get a pack n play with a changing table that swings away even better.
baskets for toys, a blanket to play on and a bouncy seat!
good luck
