Anyone live in Floral Park Bellorose School District?
If so, please give me your pros/cons about living there.

I do not know much about the elementary school district, but I am familiar with the high school district (sewanhaka) - do you know what high school it would be zoned for?

I heard good things about the elementary schools, however when you go to greatschools.net there are reviews abt FPB elementary that are of concern (favoring kids of families that have lived there for generations, minorities having issues) and the JLC elementary had better reviews. The other thing is that the JHS/HS is from grades 7-12 and we don't know if we want our kids entering school at age 12 with 16-17 yo kids.
I think the homes in general are lovely, they are not "cookie cutter" and the village block is cute. I don't know if it's worth it for us to pay the village taxes for extra police and the pool.

I taught at two of the high schools in the district and at first was concerned about the same thing (preteens with young adults) and overall I never saw it as a huge problem. Did some young kids hang out with the older kids? yeah, but overall this was not the case.
And as for minorities, I never saw them having any problems. That was one thing I actually loved about working at Sewanhaka HS - it was a melting pot and everyone seemed to get along very well.

I have to say that every school district has different complaints, and these above ones are very common.

I grew up there and went to John Lewis Childs elementary school and Floral Park Memorial Hs. I have to say that being in a school grades 7 through 12 wasn't a big deal. I always felt like things were separated. Such as lunch rooms, hallways. I also went to Sewanaka for beauty Culture and had a good experience there. One of the nice things about Floral Park Mem is that it isn't huge. I think there was only 185 kids in my class So everyone sort of knew everyone.
As far as village taxes go I think the police dept there is def worth paying for. They are always driving around. They certainly bothered us quite a bit when we were annoying teenagers just hanging out in the square.. Where in the village are you looking?

the reviews on greatschools are comical. i've worked in 3 VERY different schools in very different communities and just read all the reviews. i don't think those parents have any idea of what the school or students are really like. take it with a grain of salt.

Does anyone know of any other websites with school reviews/ratings/info? I know test scores are huge but not the most important.
