Anyone live LD for a period of time once you were married?

Just curious -

Has anyone lived in another state from DH for a period of time? Let's say, while a move was in the process and one person was finishing a job, starting a new one, etc.
How long were you apart? How often did you see each other? How was it?

Thanks!

Re: Anyone live LD for a period of time once you were married?

when my sister was in med school her and my bil lived in Florida. She really wanted to do her residency up here in NY because they planned on moving back. So while she was doing her final round of rotations she did them here and my BIL was in Florida. They did this for 6 months. It was tough, but my BIL would come up every other weekend and on my sister's time off she would go back to FL.

I haven't, but a very good friend of mine at work did. She stayed in NY and hubby was working in DC. I was surprised that they were able to make it work for a significant amount of time. Months, although I can't remember exactly how long. She took a shuttle down there on weekends. Probably like every other weekend. Maybe more.

We're currently in that situation right now. My DH is in VA and I'm in MD.

In a perfect world, we would've sold our house right away and I'd be down there living with him. Our house still hasn't sold (almost 5 months on the market), and since I'm in school as well as doing an interniship in MD, it's only smart to stay here.

He is living with my brother and SIL while he's working. It sucks, especially since I'm pg, but we have to do it. We see each other about once a week.

Thanks for your responses - this would be for about 7 weeks tops and there would more than likely be a plane trip every weekend or every other.

DH and I lived apart for a year and 4 months in the beginning of our relationship, but not since we've been married.

one thing I can say for sure, you will appreciate each other SO much more after the 7 weeks you're apart. absence really does make the heart grow fonder. and the reunion sex .... Chat Icon it will be fantastic!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

For two months, DH was in training in TX and MO and I was in NY. I did fly to visit on some weekends. The weekend trips made it bearable. Good Luck! And remember, distance makes the heart grow fonder!

We didn't, but we did consider it when we were thinking about moving to Florida.
The plan was for him to go down, get settled and make sure he could get a decent job before I quit mine and gave everything up up here.
I think it would be sad, but it is a good idea to get established somewhere else.

we did it for about 7 weeks. We were only able to see each other once during that time. It seemed like forever at the time, but when I look back it was a blink of an eye!

We lived apart for about 1 month before the wedding and 7 weeks after the wedding.

He moved to NY to start his new job. He came back for the wedding and the honeymoon (1.5 weeks). And came back again (1 week) for work purposes about a month after the honeymoon. I shacked up with him in his hotel for most of the nights he was in town. Chat Icon

We were apart for 2 more weeks and then I moved out to NY.

It was really hard, especially since it was an emotional and stressful time for both of us with the move, new job and the wedding. Looking back, like the PP said, it seemed like forever at the time but now it was just a blink of an eye.
