Anyone made a trip to California?
We would like to go away for a week in October and are trying to think of places... One that came to mind is California.
If you went there on vacation, can you tell me what your itinerary was and if you have any recommendations? Do you think there is something to do there for the whole week?

i haven't been there yet... but we're going out there in august, and i'm so excited!!
we're going out for about 10 days.. we have a wedding in san diego. we're leaving about 10 days before the wedding, flying into san francisco. we're spending 3 nights in san fran going to alcatraz, fishermans wharf, golden gate bridge, etc... then we're taking a few days to drive down to san diego. these day's aren't planned yet, and we're just gonna play it by ear and stop at things that look neat. then, we're spending 3 nights in san diego. we're doing the zoo, going to the beaches in La Jolla, and maybe seaworld....

CA is a big state so you need to chose an area IMO. I would chose a city and work around it...

SAnta Barbara
LA
San Diego
Depends what you are interested in. We've done SAn Diego, LA, Santa Barbara, Napa....each time for a week and with plenty of things to do, and more to look forward to.

We visited san fran did touristy things like alchetrez, and went to the island for dinner, sausalito I think its called

If you really want to RE-LAX, go to a resort in Palm Springs and just do nothing! It's GORGEOUS there in the mountains. I recently joined dh's company on a business trip at La Quinta Resort in Palm Springs and omg it was amazing! Something like 40 pools, golf, restaurants...it was wonderful!

We spent 8 days in California last June.
We went to San Fran, Napa and Yosemite. We rented a car, had our GPS and hit the highways for a California roadtrip (after flying to CA of course!).
Here's a list of things we did in each city. We spent a few days in each city and spaced our trip out nicely.
San Francisco
- San Francisco city tour - saw major tourist sites (Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, Nob Hill, Sausalito, etc.)
- Alcatraz tour - need to book in advance
- Checked out Fisherman's Wharf
- SF Giants baseball game at AT&T park
- We also did a lot of walking and site-seeing on our own
Napa Valley
- We were going to do a tour, but we decided to just spend the two days we had there driving up and down the valley visiting whatever vineyards we felt like. We took some tours of certain vineyards, other places we just did some tastings. Very nice there.
Yosemite
- We signed up for a couple of tours before arriving. We did the Walking Photo Tour and the Valley Floor Tour. I'd recommend the Valley Floor Tour. They take you around the Valley Floor in an open-top trolley and point out some beautiful sites.
- Also went to Glacier Point on our own. The view was breathtaking.
After Yosemite, we headed back to San Fran and went to a Oakland A's baseball game. Then back to NY the next day.
