Anyone make there own ice cream?
My DS has egg and peanut/tree nut allergies. I was thinking of making my own ice cream to avoid any cross contamination from a store of factory. Is it hard to do? How does it taste? I have a kitchen aid and was thinking of getting the ice cream attachment, although I read on Amazon that it has mixed reviews.....

Anyone make there own ice cream?
My mom has the Cuisinart ice cream maker which works well. I got the kitchen aid attachment last christmas so I've only used it maybe twice but it worked well too. It's definitely not hard and tastes great imo. Just read the instructions carefully and follow them and you should be fine. The only thing that's hard for me is fitting the bowl in the freezer. If I had space to leave it in all the time I'd probably use it a lot more often.

Anyone make there own ice cream?
I commented on this before the site went down, and now my reply is missing so I will try again - I have a cuisinart with a built in compressor so I don't need to freeze anything beforehand. From what I understand, the kitchenaid attachment works well but is annoying because you have to really plan ahead because you have to freeze the bowl, and also it takes up a lot of space in the freezer.

It's easy to make your own ice cream and so delicious!
I don't have the kitchen aid attachment (I don't have a kitchen aid ), but I do have a stand alone ice cream maker. It's a Krups and I've been happy with it so far. I do have to put it in the freezer 24 hours ahead of time, though.
A really good book is "The Perfect Scoop" by David Lebovitz. It's like the ice cream bible. He has some recipes on his website, too, but the book is much better.

I also commented before the site went down. We have one of those balls that you freeze the insert, then put the ingredients in, close it up, and let the kids play with the ball for half an hour or so (don't remember the exact time). The kids do all the work, and it comes out pretty good!

Yes - I have a cusineart ice cream maker. I made rocky road all the time, it comes out delish! Much better than store bought. I use the recipe from the Joy of Cooking.

Re: Anyone make there own ice cream?
I thought about a yonana but I was wondering about the consequences of eating too many bananas haha. I will have to check out the cuisinart vs the kitchen aid attachment. I don't have a ton of kitchen storage space so I wanted to get the smallest thing. I also thought about the ice cream ball, but my kids are 4 yrs and 9 months old so I would would get stuck doing most of the work for that...
ETA: that salted caramel ice cream looks amazing. I would totally make that!
