Anyone move from Western Suffolk further east?
Are you glad you did it? We are considering moving from the Huntington area out to Miller Place/Wading River/Mt. Sinai/ Rocky Point. Both of us work on LI so commuting really isn't that big of an issue. If we move, we can get the house we want with everything we want without really stretching ourselves.

Re: Anyone move from Western Suffolk further east?
I moved from queens to western Suffolk - Ronkonkoma area last year. We decided on this area because we were able to get more for the money. We have a large lot 3/4 ac with an inground pool and best of all the taxes are reasonable. We are in the Connetquot school district, which i hear is great, although I do not have any children.
I love where we decided to live, I commute to Manhasset everyday, about a lil over an hour not too bad, but takes a poll. My hubby travels to the hamptons and traffic is great for him.
I love it, now i am looking to upgrade to a bigger house!
Hope this helps

Re: Anyone move from Western Suffolk further east?
I did and it was the best thing I did!
I used to live in West Islip (grew up there) got a job in Bellport so I moved out to Manorville with my DH (BF at the time).
We lived there for 2 years and then bought a house in Rocky Point. It's great, we're very happy out here.
DH grew up in Miller Place, it's a great town. So is Mt. Sinai, Wading River, Port Jeff and Shoreham.

Re: Anyone move from Western Suffolk further east?
I grew up in the dix hills area (near huntington), and moved to east setauket (tiny apartment), then port jeff (medium apartment.... still not homeowners...)
I love the three village area (stony brook, setauket, port jeff), and would LOVE to buy something out here. schools are great, neighborhoods are really pretty (especially near or north of 25A)... BUT it's really in downtown port jeff and SB. pretty much nothing below $420k... and those places are tiny...
For house hunting, we're thinking about miller place or the western part of sound beach.....

Re: Anyone move from Western Suffolk further east?
I grew up in Northport and lived there with my parents until I got married. I;m now living in Pt. Jeff, so its a very similar move to what you're thinking of.
The areas of Easter LI your talking about are higly developed now, so they aren't very different from Western Suffolk. There are a whole bunch of stores in Rocky Point, its only a 20 minute drive to the Tanger outlets, and the SMithhave mall isn;t very far either. If you aren;t increasing your commute, go for it! This is a great area with some very good school districts.

I grew up in Commack and bought a house in Centereach. Thats not exactly eastern suffolk, but further than commack, lol. If we both didn't work in the city we would have definitely gone further East.

Re: Anyone move from Western Suffolk further east?
we moved from a townhouse in Oakdale to Ridge in 2004. we LOVE it! I commute to Massapequa 4x's a week, DH to the Hamptons 99% of the time. I feel the drive is worth it because I love the country feel of our area so much. I just wish LI had better LIRR service ON LI so I could take the train. Oh & DH was originally from Valley stream & I was from Port Jeff. originally.

Re: Anyone move from Western Suffolk further east?
I have a friend that wound up in Miller place -- beautiful area, great schools. Although, I really love certain parts of eastern suffolk, the inability to, if need be, look for work in the city, is the reason we wouldn't go further than Smithtown. However, if that will never be an issue for you I would seriously consider it. Among my group of friends, western suffolk is the furthest we will live, because of the possible need to work in the city. In fact, last year, after working in Melville for 5 years, my husband accepted an offer in the city.

Re: Anyone move from Western Suffolk further east?
My sister moved from Babylon Village to Wading River a year ago. She loves it. It's perfect for them because she's a SAHM and her husband works from home most days.
If you have kids, I would recommend it. The schools are great, they got a much bigger property with a gorgeous IGP and the "country" atmosphere is really nice for kids to grow up in. They went peach picking down the road this afternoon
