Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
I wanted to take Baby Basics for DH and BF for me but $75 and $60 a couple? I'm trying to save money, not throw it away!
Is there a DVD out there I could buy to show DH Baby Basics?

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
Nope...my doctor told me not to bother and save my $$. She said the lamaze classes are useless unless you want to give birth naturally (without any anesthesia), and the breastfeeding classes she said you will be given instructions and taught how to feed during my post partum stay at the hospital. She advised me to take a tour of the hospital though as it has a new post partum department.

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
we didnt... we only took the tour of the hospital... my friend from high school told me that she took some lamaze classes with her first and everything she learned went out the window once she was in labor...
ETA: my doctor's office offered a class for future moms for free... it was couple of hours and the RN talked to us about nutrition, how your body changes, what to expect, when to call the doctor etc.

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
I am actually thinking of taking 3 classes offered through my doctor's office ...
Lamaze - in addition to Lamaze techniques, the nurse will basically go through everything that will happen and how the doctors handle it.
Intro Breastfeeding: I think is neccessary
Baby Basics: Debating this one, but I guess it cannot hurt to go to.

I bought the Laugh and Learn video to save money and time. It's been great, a little 90's and cheesy, but really good info overall.
Does your hospital provide classes? I'm doing BFing and we did a 28 week class with ours for free.

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
I didn't take a childbirth class- it was very pricey and by the time I was ready to think about it, I really needed rest. I wasn't willing to give up a full weekend day when I knew I wanted the epidural.
We did take "Baby Boot Camp"- about newborn care- it was free at my local hospital (not on LI) and it was worth it. But I don't know how much I would have been willing to pay for it.

I did not pay for any classes. I went to a few few BRU classes.
I got the laugh and learn DVD but only watched half. DH only went to one class with me..... I will have to do a CRASH training with him when baby is born.

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
We did take the baby care basics class and truthfully, as helpful as it was - most of it was discussed on the DVD we watched

We didn't, but then again I have a son. DH wanted to but it's just way too expensive. It'll come naturally!

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
We aren't taking a thing. DH and I don't normally have the same days off, so it's not even feasible. Although, we are trying to see when we can take infant CPR together. We don't know if it's possible.

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
We took like every class imaginable: Early Pregnancy, BF, Baby Basics, Baby Emergencies, C Section/Delivery and Lamaze,
BUT
at ALMOST EVERY hospital there is a 24 hour feed on the TV on baby care/basics
Also try your hospital; where we are delivering we got a free baby basics class
I'm sure too there are many videos out there.

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
Try your local library. I watched a lamaze/C-Section DVD from there.. in the comfort of your own home you can skip as many parts as you want

Re: Anyone not taking baby classes of any kind?
our hospital does not charge for their classes...Some of them anyway. I went to one the other night and it was very informative-all about safety...and it was free.. Next week we're going to an infant care class and its free, and then they have a labor and delivery class..also free.
You should come to my hospital for the class
