Anyone or their SO work for a hedge fund?
Is anyone else freaked out by the current environment? I mean, it's always in the back of my head that it's a more volitile environment than a tradtional bank, but the past few weeks have really made it a lot more real.
DH is working 7 days a week now, even when he's home he's online or the phone or blackberry. So far they are doing ok, but you never know.

I do. We are very diverse and it doesn't seem like people are too worried. I work in the back office so I may not see it. Also a lot of our big guys are on vacation. August a lot of people take time off to be with their kids before school starts. I think that's similar in other firms. I really do think things will pick up the last quarter.

It applies to the entire banking industry not just the Hedge Funds. The Credit market is very volatile and honestly - working in this industry it's something you "accept" as it's all cyclical...what goes up must come down at some point.
However - working extra totally stinks, and I completely understand how your husband feels!

I know what you are saying, but when he was on the converts desk at a big bank it wasn't as scary, they had more money to back them, you know? Just freaked me out that so many funds went under last week.

Unless he's at Bear...he's fine. I completely understand how you feel it may be a lot riskier, but HF's aren't as risky as they once were. Now, these firms are backed by a lot of money coming from very secured Investment Advisors.
You honey is doing a great job and will be able to get through this. You're doing the right thing by supporting him emotionally - even though it gets frustrating to see us unattentive at times.
