Anyone out there familiar with bulldogs?

I have a French and an American Bulldog. Love them.

My question is, do English bulldogs slobber, drool, and shed as much as the Americans?

My DH has ALWAYS wanted an English and my American is 10 and I thought when he is no longer with us I'd get DH an English puppy. BUT the mess from my Amercian beings me to tears at times like right now while I scrub the walls as high as the light switches from his head shake slobber splatter Chat Icon I can't take the work again. DH swears they don't slobber and drool like the big guy Chat Icon

I think they do drool and slobber. Maybe not as much though. I am not sure how much they shed. But also you should know that they come with more health problems than an American Bulldog. they are born with Hip Displaysia (SP?) and get infections easily. So if you do get an English bulldog, just make sure you can commit to one. You have to wath their diet and clean there wrinkles and stuff. They are awesome dogs though. DH wants one in the worst way but i am not sure we will ever get one.

Yes, we are aware. Thanks for the heads up though. My American has hip dysplasia and the Frenchie has lot sof wrinkles so we are familiar with ailments of the breed, that's why we got health insurance for the Frenchie!!!! Chat Icon They are awesome though. I would HIGHLY recommend a French, I have zero complaints about him, unlike the American Chat Icon

Yup they are just as messy!! lol..Drools and slobbers us all the time!!! We have one named Chunk! ha ha!! You do have to commit to them though, keeping up with their folds and watching their diet..They are great dogs and I would get another one. I would def reccomend you get it from a reputable breeder though. We made the mistake of getting him from some woman in queens and we should have done more research. Chunk had Hip diplaysia and when he was 6 months old we had surgery on both his hips because they were popping when he walked. So now he has plates and screws in each hip. Poor thing! But he is doing great and hasnt had any other hip problems since. We also give him Glucosomine daily so I guess it had helped. We love our Bully!!!Chat Icon

I have a 2 year old English. He definitely slobbers quite a bit and I could totally relate to your comment on cleaning the drool off the walls! I think the English are a little smaller than the American so the drool doesn't get up quite so high Chat Icon They really are wonderful dogs though and I am sure we will always have a bulldog in the house (I would love a French too!)

I had 2 growing up. I could handle the drool and slobber but not the eng bulldog smell. If you're going to get one, make sure it's a reputable breeder like Cherokee bulldogs on LI

My American Bulldog does not drool or slober one bit. Poor thing was poorly bred and has a lot of skin issues and hip dyplasia as well. Yay for other AB owners!!!

Re: Anyone out there familiar with bulldogs?

I have an awesome English Bulldog. To be honest, he doesn't really drool or slobber. Because of a throat issue, he drinks his water out of a talll water bottle on his crate and that definitely helps cut down. Sometimes he'll slobber a bit on walls and on people, but its not all the time.

Yes, definitely shed!

They have lots of health issues as others have said, but they are awesome dogs!
