Re: anyone paint over wood paneling?

We did in my daughters room and it came out great but it was alot of work. Primed first, then filled in with some caulk in areas and then 2 coats of paint. Here is an after pic, I wish I had the before.

Keep in mind this paneling was that yellowy beigy one from the 70s, not the dark dark one that was also popular.

We did in two rooms. We had to use an oil based primer so that it would really adhere and then latex paint over that.

so confusing! I've read on some sites that you should not use oil and use latex based primers and paints instead!

I know. We got different answers from two guys at the HD paint desk, so then we went to Janovic and they spent a lot of time explaining which paints would work best, which roller covers, etc. They took a lot of time to answer our questions and told us to call if we needed any help during and they'd talk us through it over the phone.

Good to know they were helpful. I have one of those stores near me that I'll pick up paint samples from so I'll get more info from them.

We were going to paint over the wood paneling in our extension but in the end DH and his brother put sheetrock up over it. I think you can definitely paint it and if you explain the project at the paint store they will lead you in the right direction.
